Cai Kaiyuan

Cai Kaiyuan

Cai Kaiyuan (1965.4—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering of Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1998, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 1999.

Prof. Cai received his doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 1991. He is mainly engaged in the study of software reliability and testing, intelligent system and control and software cybernetics. Part of his work on software reliability was referred to as Cai’s Model and appeared in relevant textbooks published by Springer. His papers have been published in several international journals, and his two English monographs, Introduction to Fuzzy Reliability and Software Defect and Operational Profile Modeling were published by Kluwer Academic Publishers in 1998 and 1996 respectively.

He works as a member of Editorial Board for Fuzzy Sets and Systems, and the gust editor for the International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering and Journal of Systems and Software. He is also the Editor-in-Chief for The Kluwer International Series on Asian Studies in Computer and Information Science. He was a research fellow at City, University of London and participated in the EUREKA research projects about software trustability from 1993 to 1995.

Fu Huimin

Fu Huimin

Fu Huimin (1956, 2—) is a professor and PhD supervisor in Beihang University. He is also the director of the Small Sample Technology Research Center. In 1999, Prof. Fu was elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

In more than 30 years, Prof. Fu has devoted himself to the research of aircraft reliability engineering, small sample statistics, life prediction and control, signal analysis and processing. Remarkable achievements have been accomplished. He has published more than 180 papers, and obtained more than 20 science and technology rewards. He discovered the fatigue strength distribution function, for which he won the National Natural Science Award. Moreover, three of his other scientific achievements, “The Method of Reliability Life Prediction for Aircraft Structures,” “Aeronautical Material Database,” and “Research on Fatigue and Fracture of Aerospace Polymers,” have won National Science and Technology Progress Awards from the Ministry of Aerospace Industry. In statistics, Prof. Fu established a method for interval estimation and a hypothesis test for percentiles and percentages of continuous distributions, discovered the rank distributions of incomplete data, and developed the 2-D tolerance factor method, which can raise the precision of forecasts and controls. He founded the statistics of percentiles and percentages, and contributed heavily to the development of mathematical statistics and reliability. In fatigue and fracture analysis, he developed the concept and practice for controlling structural lifetime through nondestructive inspection. According to actual inspection requirements, the crack growth duration and inspection intervals of structures can be effectively controlled by this method. This has moved traditional lifetime predictions toward lifetime control, and the research on structural lives from passive to active.

Xu Huibin

Xu Huibin

Xu Huibin (1959.7—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Beihang University, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (elected in 2011). He is now the President of Beihang University.

Prof. Xu received his bachelor's degree from Fuxin Mining Institute (now known as Liaoning Technical University) in 1982, his master's degree from the Technical University Clausthal, Germany in 1987, and PhD degree from the Technical University Berlin, Germany in 1992. From 1992 to 1993, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University Munich, Germany.

In 1991, he and Prof. Müller, his supervisor, proposed the One Dimensional Müller-Xu Thermodynamic Theory of Ideal Pseudo-elasticity. Since he started to work at Beihang University in 1993, he has been focusing on the research in the field of materials with special functions, thermal barrier coatings, magnetostrictive materials, etc.

Up to now, he has won one First Prize and one Second Prize of the State Technological Invention Award, and four ministry-level First Prizes, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in 2010. He has published over 300 journal papers and held more than 100 patents.

Zhang Guangjun

Zhang Guangjun

Zhang Guangjun (1965.3—) is a professor of the School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering of Beihang University and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (elected in 2013).

From 1982 to 1991, he successively received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctor’s degree from the Department of Precision Instrument Engineering of Tianjin University. He began to work at Beihang University in 1991. Now he is Director of the Key Laboratory of Precision Opto-mechatronics and Vice President of the two societies: Chinese Society for Measurement and the China Instrument and Control Society.

Dr. Zhang has been engaged in the dynamic measurement and engineering application of geometric parameters. He developed the vision measurement model and field calibration system, and brought up a series of new methods of dynamic imaging and graphic information processing. He led the development of small high-precision celestial navigation products for satellites, dynamic test stations of the flight performance of aeronautical equipment and main line dynamic test stations of train operation, which equal or surpass foreign products in major performance indicators. These technologies have been transferred to the industry sector.

He has won a first prize (in 2008), two second prize (in 2006 and 2012) and a fourth prize (in 1997) of the State Technological Invention Award. He also wrote two monographs: Vision Measurement and Star Identification.

Sun Xiaofeng

Sun Xiaofeng

Sun Xiaofeng is a professor of Aerospace Engineering at Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1999, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2000.

He received his Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Beihang University in 1988, and his M.S. (1985) and B.S. (1982) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His principal fields of interest include unsteady flows in turbomachinery, vortex dynamics, and aeroacoustics. He carried out a series of research work including experimental, theoretical, and computational investigations into vortex sound interactions, flow stabilities in compressors, control of blade flutter, and acoustic design of aeroengine nacelles as well as various strategies for fan and compressor noise reduction.

He has published two books and more than 100 technical papers in the fields of aeroacoustics and unsteady flow of turbomachinery. He is now a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Gas Turbine Society of Japan, and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of AIAA Journal of Propulsion and Power. Currently, he is the Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Journal of Aeronautics, and from 2016, he serves as the board director of Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC).  

Sun Mao

Sun Mao

Sun Mao (1955.8—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1997, and selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2000.

He received his doctor’s degree from Princeton University in 1983 and completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Maryland, College Park in 1985. He enjoys the special government allowance from the State Council of China.

At present, his research focuses on bioinspired fluid mechanics, providing micro aerial vehicles with new concepts of aerodynamic configuration and control methods derived from animal flight. His work covers the aerodynamic and flow properties of animals (insects like flies and bees as well as small birds and bats) under typical flight conditions, new propulsion mechanisms and methods of control and stability augmentation of animal flight, the mechanism of high lift and principles of control of maneuvering flight, the high lift in some special motion modes, etc.

His achievements in bioinspired fluid mechanics, flow control and complex flow of rotor wings have been internationally recognized. He revealed the three mechanisms of the high lift in insect fight, which was his most remarkable work and introduced by the Journal of Experimental Biology. He has published more than 90 papers in international journals and given invited speeches at domestic and international conferences for many times.

Wang Tianmiao

Wang Tianmiao

Wang Tianmiao (1960—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation and the Robotics Institute of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

He received his doctor’s degree from Northwestern Polytechnical University in 1990. In recent years, he has been engaging in the theoretical and applied research on embedded intelligent perception and control in surgical robots, special service robots and so on. As a pioneer in the studies of surgical robots in China, he has successfully applied his work to over a thousand clinical cases since 1997. In 2013, he joined China’s 29th Antarctic expedition, carrying out experiments of a robot rover in harsh conditions. His anti-terrorist and anti-riot robots, robots in nuclear industry and service robots have been put into use and popularized.

His publications include over 100 papers indexed by SCI/Ei Compendex and three books. He has also won a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and several other national or provincial prizes. There are more than ten patents in his name.

Ren Zhang

Ren Zhang

Ren Zhang (1957,9—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering of Beihang University. In 2001, Prof. Ren was elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program (in the discipline of guidance navigation and control).

Prof. Ren received his master’s and PhD degrees from Northwestern Polytechnical University in 1985 and 1994 respectively. He was a visiting professor at University of California, Riverside from April 1999 to February 2000, and then Louisiana State University from March to December, 2000.

His main research areas include control theory and applications, aircraft guidance navigation and control. In recent years, he has taken charge of many research projects and produced many products which directly solved the key technical problems of our military equipment-typed projects and provided technical reserves for the development of new models, contributing greatly to the national defense equipment industry. What’s more, he has published two books and more than 300 papers.

Yang Jialing

Yang Jialing

Yang Jialing (1955, 4—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of Beihang University. He is also Dean of School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering, Director of the Institute of Solid Mechanics, and Vice Director of academic committee in Beihang University. He was selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2001.

Prof. Yang received his bachelor’s degree from Zhejiang University, master’s degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and PhD degree from Peking University. His research area covers impact dynamics, plastic mechanics, biomimetic mechanics, aircraft anti-collision and protection, etc.

Prof. Yang has published more than 150 papers, about 110 of which were published in core international journals. Especially, his reach on orbital deviation and failure analysis of the slender rocket during an accidental attack in the air, was published by Proceedings of Royal Society, Int. J. Solids & Structures, Int. J. Mech. Sci.,and Int. J. Impact Engng.

Gao Yitian

Gao Yitian

Gao Yitian is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He is also a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

Prof. Gao received his B.S. degree from Nankai University in 1982, M.A. degree from City University of New York (CUNY) in 1986, and M.S. and PhD degrees from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1988 and 1991.

His main research areas include cosmic plasma physics, scientific computation, fluid mechanics and optical fiber communications. His theoretical research provides a way to predict the observable effect as well as useful information for future related experiments and designs. He has published more than 80 papers on international journals indexed by SCI.

Zhang Tao

Zhang Tao

Zhang Tao (1964.6—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2002.

He received his doctor’s degree from Tohoku University in 1993 as a government-sponsored student. Producing world-leading results, his research focuses on the development, preparation, physical properties and atomic structure of non-equilibrium materials like bulk amorphous alloys and nanocrystalline alloys. as well as the crystallization mechanism of amorphous alloys. He was the first to develop a bulk amorphous alloy that has a stable supercooled liquid region in which it has superplasticity. He has also developed a series of bulk amorphous alloys that feature high strength, toughness and corrosion resistance as well as good soft and hard magnetic properties.

He has published over 100 papers indexed by SCI, three of which has been cited for more than 200 times. He has 53 Japan patents and five international patents in his name. He has received several academic awards including Thesis Award granted by the Japan Institute of Metals, etc. Besides, he also holds a concurrent post as the committee member of National Space Development Agency of Japan (now known as Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency).

Wu Zhe

Wu Zhe

Wu Zhe (1957, 2—) is a professor in Beihang University. In 2005, Prof. Wu was elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

Prof. Wu received his PhD degree in Harbin Institute of Technology in1988, and started teaching in Beihang University from 1991. He was head of the Deparment of Flight Vehicle Design and Applied Mechanics, and Vice President of Beihang University. He volunteered to resign the vice-president post and began to devote to teaching and scientific research in 2004.

Prof. Wu’s research areas include aircraft configuration, electromagnetic scattering, and low observable technology. He has made many contributions to the related research. For example, he made new discoveries on electromagnetic scattering of aircraft shape and weakly scattering objects; in numerical calculation of the electromagnetic scattering field, he studied the stability and convergence of the moment method, and proposed the modified panel method.

Wang Dongming

Wang Dongming

Wang Dongming (1961,7—) is a professor and PhD Supervisor of Beihang University, on leave from French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) where he has been Research Director (Directeur de Recherche) since 2005. He is also the Vice President of Sino-French Engineer School of Beihang University.

He received the B.S. degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 1983, the Ph.D. degree from Academia Sinica, China in 1987, and Diplôme d'Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France in 1999. He was appointed Assistant Professor at Institute of Systems Science, Academia Sinica, China (1987-1988), Assistant Professor at Research Institute for Symbolic Computation, Johannes Kepler University, Austria (1988-1992), Chargé de Recherche at CNRS, France (1992-2005), Cheung Kong Professor of Computer Mathematics at Beihang University, China (2005-2008), and Deputy Director of Beihang Sino-French Engineer School, China/France (2005-2008). He was elected as a member of the Academia Europaea in 2017.

Prof. Wang has authored three monographs, co-authored three textbooks, and also been the (co-)editor/translator of over 20 books and special volumes. Besides, he has published more than 100 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He has given more than 20 invited talks at international conferences and workshops and has been invited to give lectures for short-term visit in many institutions. He serves as Editor-in-Chief for the journal Mathematics in Computer Science (published by Birkhäuser/Springer) and Executive Associate Editor-in-Chief for the journal SCIENCE CHINA Information Sciences (published by Science China Press and Springer) and on the editorial boards ofJournal of Symbolic Computation (published by Academic Press/Elsevier) and several other journals and book series. He has been involved in the initiation and organization (as organizer, general chair/co-chair, or chair/co-chair/member of the program committees) of over 100 international conferences and workshops and has participated as leader or principal investigator in a number of EU/international research projects. Prof. Wang is recognized for his work and expertise on automated geometric reasoning, polynomial elimination and triangular decomposition, and applications of symbolic computation to differential equations and biological networks.

Jia Yingmin

Jia Yingmin

Jia Yingmin (1958.10—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering of Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1996, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2004.

He received his doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 1993 and completed his postdoctoral research there in 1994. In recent years, his research focuses on robust control, adaptive control and intelligent control as well as their applications in vehicle systems and industrial processes, producing a number of meaningful results. He has published more than 40 papers in Chinese and international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology. He was a funded visiting scholar at the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and Osaka Prefecture University. At present, he holds positions at the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key Laboratory of Systems and Control of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Association of Automation and the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Wang Huaming

Wang Huaming

Wang Huaming (1962.5—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Beihang University, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (elected in 2015).

He received his bachelor’s degree from Sichuan Institute of Industry (now known as Xihua University) in 1983, master’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1986 and doctor’s degree from China University of Mining and Technology in 1989. After finishing his research at the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as a postdoctoral fellow, he began to work at Beihang University in 1992, and was sponsored by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to work at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangan-Nuremberg, Germany in the same year. Now he is the director of the National Engineering Laboratory of Additive Manufacturing for Large Metallic Components and the Engineering Research Center of Laser Direct Manufacturing for Large Metallic Components, and the chief scientist for aerospace materials and structure of the National Laboratory of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Prof. Wang has long been engaging in the research on laser additive manufacturing for large metallic components and laser surface engineering. He made breakthroughs in the manufacturing technique, complete sets of equipment, quality control and engineering application of laser additive manufacturing for large metallic key components made from high-performance and difficult-to-machine metal, such as titanium alloys. He also developed the special coating using laser cladding of metalsilicide, which could endure extreme conditions like high temperature and corrosion. His achievements have been applied to planes, missiles, satellites, aircraft engine, etc.

He has published over 180 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index. He won a first prize of the State Technological Invention Award in 2012 and other three national or ministry-level prizes. He was also awarded the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress and the title of Outstanding Talent in Defense Science, Technology and Industry.

Zhang Jun

Zhang Jun

Zhang Jun (1965—) is a professor of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering and the director of National Key Laboratory of CNS/ATM at Beihang University. He also serves as the deputy director of the Chinese Institute of Electronics. He received his PhD degree from Beihang University in 2001. He has been elected as the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2013.

As a senior expert in air traffic engineering, Prof. Zhang has done several groundbreaking work in monitoring the air route network operation of civil aviation and surveillance of satellite-based air route operation. He also pioneered the development of China’s first new-generation air traffic service platform and first satellite-based air route operation surveillance equipment. Prof. Zhang has been the leading principle investigator for more than 20 major research and engineering projects, which are funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the 973 Program, the 863 Program, and the National ATM Program.

He won a first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2004, a first prize of the State Technological Invention Award in 2009, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation. He has published more than 100 papers in top-level journals and two books; he also has received 35 national patents.

Tao Zhi

Tao Zhi

Tao Zhi (1963.12—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Energy and Power Engineering and Vice President of Beihang University. He is a member of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, Vice Director of National Laboratory of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NLAA), and Director of National Key Laboratory of Aero-thermodynamics of Aero-engines. He received his doctor’s degree from the University of Strathclyde. In 2005, he was selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

Prof. Tao’s research interests include flow and heat transfer of high-temperature rotating parts, efficient cooling technology, micro-scale power systems, aero-engine coupling layout, and power systems and aircraft coupling layout. He has made outstanding contributions to the field of aerodynamics and thermodynamics of aircraft engines. As the chief scientist, he took charge of two national defense 973 projects.

He has published more than 200 papers in domestic and international academic journals and won a first prize and a second prize of the National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award, a second prize of National Defense Technological Invention Award and a second prize of National Education and Teaching Achievement Award. He is the chief editor of the Journal of Aerospace Power and Propulsion and Power Research. The innovation team of aircraft engine aerothermodynamics led by Prof. Tao was selected as one of the first national defense science and technology innovation teams. His teaching team of aircraft power courses won the title of National Outstanding Teaching Team.

Jiao Zongxia

Jiao Zongxia

Jiao Zongxia (1963—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering of Beihang University. In 2006, he was elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

He received his doctor’s degree from Zhejiang University in 1991. His research interests include fluid power transmission and control, integrated design of electromechanical systems, linear and non-linear system control, and fluid-solid interaction mechanics. He has published more than 200 papers, over 150 of which are in journals indexed by SCI/EI/ISTP. He has also won a second prize of the State Technological Invention Award, a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and over ten provincial or ministry-level prizes. Besides, he edited or translated eight books and holds more than 20 patents.

He was a visiting professor at the Institute of Aircraft Systems Engineering of the Hamburg University of Technology (THUU) in 2000. At present, he is a member of the Advisory Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power and Mechatronic Systems, Director of the Engineering Research Centre of Complicated Product Advanced Manufacturing, a member of Editorial Board of Information and Control and Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering in China, etc. He enjoys the special government allowance from the State Council of China.

Miao Jungang

Miao Jungang

Miao Jungang (1963—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

He received his doctor’s degree from the University of Bremen, where he studied and worked for ten years (1993-2003). His research focuses on the theory and technology of microwave remote sensing, and technologies of electromagnetic scattering and radiation measurement, microwave and millimeter-wave imaging and microwave antennas. He has headed ten projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of the Ministry of Education of China, Equipment Development Department of the Central Military Commission of China, civil aviation, etc.

He has won two second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and published ten papers in top international journals like IEEE T-GRS and Radio Science. At present, he is a member of the Microwave Society of the Chinese Institute of Electronics.

Fang Jiancheng

Fang Jiancheng

Fang Jiancheng (1965.9—) is a professor of the School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, Vice President of Beihang University, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (elected in 2015).

He received his bachelor’s degree from Shandong Institute of Technology (now known as Shandong University) in 1983, master’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1988, and doctor’s degree from Southeast University in 1996. He is a chief scientist of the 973 program, the convener of the navigation and location expert panel in the field of earth observation and navigation of the 863 Program. He is also the director of the National Defense Key Laboratory of Inertia Technology.

Prof. Fang’s research mainly focuses on maglev inertial actuators for spacecraft attitude control and inertial navigation technology. He led the development of China’s first 5-degree of freedom actively controlled maglev inertial momentum wheel and maglev control moment gyroscope. He also brought up a new method of rapid and accurate alignment for the strapdown inertial measurement system and a new filtering method for its integrated measurement system

He has won a first prize and a second prize of the State Technological Invention Award as well as a first prize and a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. He was also awarded the title of Outstanding Talent in Defense Science, Technology and Industry in 2008 and the title of National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent in 2009.

Huang Haijun

Huang Haijun

Huang Haijun (1964—) has been the vice president of Beihang University since December 2015. He was the executive associate dean of Beihang’s Graduate School from 2009 to 2015, the dean of School of Economics and Management, Beihang University from 2007 to 2009, and the vice director of the Department of Management Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China from 2000 to 2004. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1998, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2008.

Prof. Huang received his PhD degree in transport operations research from Beihang University in 1992. His research interests include road traffic flow models, transport network modeling, travel behavior analysis and congested road-use pricing. He has published more than 160 papers in such international journals as Transportation Research (Parts A to F), OR, TS, JORS, EJOR, JTEP, Physical Review E, Physical A, Networks and Spatial Economics, etc. In 1998, he got the Grant for National Excellent Young Researchers; in 2005, the Grant for Innovative Research Groups; in 2011, the national prize for Achievements in Natural Science; in 2012, the Fudan prize for Excellent Research in Management Sciences. He is now on the editorial boards of Transportation Research (Part B), JAT, Transportmetrica A, Transport Policy, etc. As the vice president, he is serving the Systems Engineering Society of China, and Chinese Society of Optimization/Overall Planning and Economic Mathematics. In 2011, he was selected as the IAC member of ISTTT.

Cai Guobiao

Cai Guobiao

Cai Guobiao (1967—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Executive Vice Dean of the School of Astronautics of Beihang University. He is also the leader responsible for the Key Laboratory of Spacecraft Design Optimization and Dynamic Simulation of the Ministry of Education (under preparation). He was selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

Prof. Cai conducts in-depth research on vacuum plume mechanism and effects, and multi-disciplinary optimization and simulation technology of liquid rocket engine. He is a member of the Aerospace section of the Science and Technology Commission and the expert panel for the new generation of launch vehicle of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, a member of the expert panel of the 863 Program and the manned space flight program, a member of the Space Propulsion Committee of the International Astronautical Federation, and vice director of liquid rocket propulsion professional committee of the Chinese Society of Astronautics.

He has won a first prize of Beijing Teaching Achievement Award, a first prize of Military Science and Technology Progress Award, a first prize and five second prizes of National Defense Science and Technology, and the Baosteel Education Award for Excellent Teachers. Cao Jinbin

Cao Jinbin

Cao Jinbin (1964.12—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the school of Astronautics, Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2000, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2008.

He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1986 and his PhD degree from Université Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier in 1996. He is a member of Board of Directors of CN-COSPAR, China Space Science Society, and International Academy of Astronautics.

His main research areas include magnetospheric physics and space environment exploration. His achievements in the magnetotail dynamics have been listed three times as the Top Story of the Cluster mission by European Space Agency. He proposed stationary Nongyrotropic model of new born ions in the vicinities of comets and planets with atmosphere. He is the PI of the Low Frequency Electromagnetic Wave detector for the China-ESA cooperation Double Star Program, CoI of ESA’s Clster mission and Venus express, and CNES’s Taranis.

Jiang Lei

Jiang Lei

Jiang Lei (1965.3—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as the dean of the School of Chemistry of Beihang University, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (elected in 2009) and the World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (elected in 2012), also a member of foreign academician of the American Academy of Engineering (elected in 2016).

At Jilin University, he received a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Physics in 1987, a master’s degree from the Department of Chemistry in 1990, and a doctor’s degree under the joint supervision program with Tokyo University in 1994. He has worked as the chief scientist of the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, the director of the expert panel for the special project of nanoscience and technology of the 863 Program, and a research fellow of Kanagawa Academy of Science and Technology. Now he is also a research fellow and PhD supervisor of the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Prof. Jiang is a well-known expert in nanomaterials and mainly researches into the synthesis and preparation of bioinspired intelligent interfacial materials in multidisciplinary sciences. His studies cover bioinspired materials with special wettability, ion channels, energy and lightweight and high-strength materials. He wrote Bioinspired Intelligent Nanostructured Interfacial Materials and published over 500 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index. He also holds more than 70 patents.

He works as an editor for a number of journals, such as Small, Solid State Sciences, Advanced Functional Materials, Langmiur, Soft Matter, Biomicrofluidics, Nano Reserch and so on. He was awarded a second prize of the State Natural Science Award in 2005, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in 2013, the China NANO Award in 2015, the UNESCO Medal for Contribution to the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies, Nikkei Asia Prizes in 2016 and the Humboldt Research Award in 2017.

Wang Jinjun

Wang Jinjun

Wang Jinjun (1963.8—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Wang received his doctor’s degree from Tsinghua University in 1990 and completed his postdoctoral research at Beihang University in 1991. His research focuses on turbulence, flow control and aerodynamics of aircraft. He has done a lot of work on boundary layer bypass transition, coherent structures of turbulence, flow control of zero-mass jet and plasma, aerodynamic configuration, lift augmentation and drag reduction of aircraft, etc. He has led over 30 national, ministry-level or civil aviation projects.

He has published more than 150 papers in authoritative academic journals like Progress in Aerospace Sciences, Journal of Fluid Mechanics, AIAA Journal, Experiments in Fluids and Journal of Turbulence. He has won six provincial or ministry-level prizes and obtained more than ten patents. He also holds editorial positions in Journal of Aircraft, Experiments in Fluids, Chinese Journal of Aeronautics, Journal of Experiments in Fluid Mechanics, etc.

Xiang Jinwu

Xiang Jinwu

Xiang Jinwu (1964—) is a professor of the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering and Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of Beihang University. He was selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

His research covers aircraft design, UAV system design and so on. At present, he is the chief designer of Unmanned System Institute and Director of the Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology of Intelligent Unmanned Aircraft Systems of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Prof. Xiang has won ten national, provincial or ministry-level science and technology progress awards, two first prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation. He enjoys the special government allowance from the State Council of China. He has obtained 54 authorized national invention patents, published more than 210 papers and cultivated eight postdoctoral researchers and 28 doctors.

Guo Lei

Guo Lei

Guo Lei (1966—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering of Beihang University, and Vice Director of the National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Aircraft Control. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Guo received his doctor’s degree from Southeast University in 1997. His research focuses on the control theory for uncertain stochastic systems and the technology of high-precision navigation and control systems. His publications include more than 80 papers in journals indexed by SCI, one monograph in English published by Springer and one by CRC Press. He has led more than 20 national projects and won a second prize of the State Natural Science Award as well as a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

From 1999 to 2007, he was funded by the French government, the Royal Society and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and conducted collaborative research in France, Britain and Japan respectively. At present, he is a member of Editorial Board of two international journals listed in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and five domestic journals.

Jiang Chengbao

Jiang Chengbao (1968—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2009, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2011.

Prof. Jiang received his doctor’s degree from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 1996. He has been studying magnetostrictive materials, rare earth permanent magnet materials and magnetic shape memory alloys. His publications include more than 90 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index. He has been invited to give speeches at international conferences for more than ten times and obtained 20 patents. He also won a first prize of the State Technological Invention Award and other national, provincial or ministry-level prizes. He was a visiting scholar at Trinity College Dublin of the University of Dublin and a senior research fellow at the University of Birmingham. Currently, he holds positions at the Chinese Society of Rare Earths, the Chinese Institute of Electronics, etc. He is also a member of Editorial Board of Chinese Journal of Rare Metals and Chinese Rare Earths.

Li Bo

Li Bo (1966.8—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Computer Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Li received his doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 1993. He has long been engaging in the research on intelligent perception, big data analysis, intelligent hardware, intelligent computation of remote sensing information and applications of artificial intelligence. He has also led more than 40 projects of the 973 Program, the 863 Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, armaments or pre-research onarmaments, defense research and so on. He worked as the Chief Scientist of a 973 Program project about the theory and method of understanding digital media, etc.

He has published more than 100 papers in major journals and conferences, and many of his research results have been applied to real systems. He has won a second prize of the State Technological Invention Award and nine provincial or ministry-level prizes. There are over 30 patents in his name.

Guo Lin

Guo Lin (1964.10—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Executive Dean of the School of Chemistry, Beihang University. He received his doctor’s degree from Beijing Institute of Technology and did his postdoctoral research at the National Sychrotron Radiation Laboratory of the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

His research focuses on the preparation, microstructure characterization and properties of nanometer materials. He has published over 230 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index, such as Chem. Soc. Rev. J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. In. Ed., Adv. Mater. He has led several nation projects and won a second prize of the State Natural Science Award as well as a first prize of the natural science award of the Ministry of Education of China.

Prof. Guo was a visiting scholar at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a research fellow sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Technische Universität Dresden. Currently, he is a follow of The Royal Society of Chemistry and also holds positions at the Key Laboratory of Bio-inspired Intelligent Science and Technology, the Chinese Society of Chemistry, etc. He enjoys the special government allowance from the State Council of China.

Fan Yubo

Fan Yubo

Fan Yubo (1965—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering of Beihang University. He is also Director of the Key Laboratory of Biomechanics and Mechanobiology. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Fan received his doctor’s degree from Sichuan University (previously known as Chengdu University of Science and Technology) in 1992. In recent years, he has been working on the basic and applied research into biomechanics, mechanobiology and their combination with biomaterials. From a multidisciplinary perspective, he studies diseases and health problems, the basics and key technologies of new medical devices, scientific and technological development strategies for medical devices, the mechanism and prevention of pilot injuries, and life protection and support technology. He has published more than 100 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index and obtained over 20 patents.

He was President of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, President of the World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers, a member of the World Council of Biomechanics, etc.

Kang Rui

Kang Rui

Kang Rui (1966—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Chief Engineer and Chair of the Academic Committee of the School of Reliability and Systems Engineering of Beihang University. He received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Beihang University in 1987 and 1990 respectively. He was selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

Prof. Kang mainly researches on the theory and technology of reliability system engineering, reliability design and test theory and methods of highly reliable and long-life products, comprehensive equipment support theory and technology, and modeling and evaluation technology of cyber-physical system reliability.

He has published seven monographs, two translations and two Beijing quality teaching materials. He presided over the development of a set of national military standard and published over 240 academic papers, over 30 of which was in journals indexed by SCI. He has won a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, seven provincial and ministry-level science and technology progress awards and obtained 18 invention patents. At present, he is a Chief Technical Officer of the National Defense 973 Program, the leader of the reliability technology professional group and the expert panel for the quality reliability and airworthiness of large military transport aircraft, Director of the Academic Committee of the National Key Laboratory of Reliability and Environmental Engineering Technology, Chief Editor of Reliability Engineering and an editor of Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica.

Sun Zhimei

Sun Zhimei

Sun Zhimei (1970—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Beihang University. She is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Sun received her doctor's degree from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2002. After graduation, she did her research in RWTH Aachen University and Uppsala University from 2002 to 2007. From June 2007 to July 2013, she worked as a professor and PhD supervisor in Xiamen University. Since August 2013, she has been working at Beihang University.

The research interests of Prof. Sun are electronic structure calculations and molecular dynamics simulations for advanced materials. So far, Prof. Sun has published over 150 peer-reviewed SCI papers, including Phys. Rev. Lett., PNAS, J. Am. Chem. Soc., Nano Letters, Nano Energy, Phys .Rev. B, Acta Mater, Appl. Phys. Lett., etc., and the citation of her published papers is over 3,700 times (by web of science) or over 4,700 times (by Google Scholar) by December 2017. She has been invited to present speeches or keynote speeches for over 20 times at important international conferences.  

Wang Shaoping

Wang Shaoping

Wang Shaoping (1966—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Deputy Dean of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, Beihang University. She is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program. She is also the director of the Reliability Branch of Operations Research Society of China, and vice-chairman of Society of Capital Women Professors. She was a guest professor at Purdue University, Ecoles Centrales, SMC Research Center in Japan and so on.

In recent years, Prof. Wang has been dedicated to the basic and applied research of electromechanical control, fault diagnosis, health management, reliability and accelerated life test. She explores the theory of electro-mechanical system and flight control system service with high reliability, dynamic reliability theory on the basis of performance degradation, and so on.

Prof. Wang has published three books, one translation and one work published by Springer. She has also published over 270 academic papers, 20 in journals indexed by SCI and 157 in journals by EI. Besides, she won a second prize of State Technological Invention Award, a second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and 15 provincial or ministry-level science and technology progress awards. She has obtained 12 authorized patents, 25 accepted patents, and 10 software copyrights.

Wang Yunpeng

Wang Yunpeng

Yunpeng Wang (1966—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Transportation Science and Engineering and Flying College, Beihang University. He is the founding director of the Transportation Program at Beihang University, the director of Beijing Key Laboratory of Connected Vehicles Infrastructure and Safety Control, and currently serves as the Vice President of the University. In 2012, he was elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

Prof. Wang is Head of a national innovation research team in intelligent transportation supported by the Ministry of S&T, and he has also been the Vice Chair, Distinguished Expert, and Convenor for many research committees, conferences, and organizations in transportation safety and intelligent transportation. He is also an active member of numerous national educational committees organized by Ministry of Education to support the curriculum development in traffic engineering, energy engineering, safety, and technology innovations. In addition, Prof. Wang is the recipient of many awards such as the Seventh China Youth S&T Award, and was selected as a New Century National Talent.

Overyears, Prof. Wang has devoted himself to the study of connected vehicles, traffic safety, intelligent transportation, and urban traffic control. He has published more than 100 papers in top-level international journals such as PNAS, Transportation Research Part B/C, IEEE Trans., and has been authorized 37 patents. He is the author or co-author of seven books, including one nationally used high-quality textbook. He has led many national projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 973 Program, 863 Program, and National Key Technology Support Program.

Cao Xianbin

Cao Xianbin

Cao Xianbin (1969—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

He also severs as the director of Key Laboratory of Airborne Information System Advanced Technology,Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Besides, he is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering and Neurocomputing (Elsevier).

He received his PhD degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1996. He mainly studies intelligent information processing, air traffic monitoring and integrated air-ground information network. He has led more than ten national projects and published over 80 papers in journals indexed by the Science Citation Index. There are 15 patents in his name. He has won a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, a first prize of the science and technology award of the Chinese Institute of Electronics and three first prizes of the science and technology progress award of China’s Ministry of Education.

Ding Xilun

Ding Xilun

Ding Xilun (1967.8—) is a full professor and the dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation of Beihang University. He was a visiting professor at King's College London from 2006 to 2009. He received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars from NSFC in 2011. In 2014, he was elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

His research focuses on mechanisms and robotics. He proposed the analysis theory of spatial elastic mechanisms and started the research on compliant metamorphic mechanisms. His inventions include a metamorphic mechanism designed to open and close hatches, a large flexible deployable mechanism for solar array, a six wheel-legged hybrid locomotion robot that can move in legged mode or wheeled mode and manipulate using legs as arms, a multi-propeller + dual-arm aero-robot, etc.

He has led over 30 projects, including more than 20 national projects involving NSFC key project, NSFC and Royal Society international cooperation project, China and Italy international cooperation project, China’s manned space engineering or lunar exploration. He has published over 170 papers, more than 120 of which are in journals indexed by the Science Citation Index/Ei Compendex. He wrote a monograph named Humanoid Dual-arm Robotics and co-authored four books. He has more than 40 patents in his name and many of them have been applied to major national space projects.

Xu Lijun

Xu Lijun

Xu Lijun (1968.7—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

He received his doctor’s degree from Tianjin University in 1996. His research focuses on process tomography and its application. He brought up a fractional period digital demodulation method and a method of direct image reconstruction, invented a fan-beam laser tomography system and a double-ring conductivity probe array imaging system, and realized the online test and diagnosis of combustion and multiphase flow.

In recent years, he has led over 20 national projects, published over 90 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index and over 150 papers in journals indexed by Ei Compendex, hosted a number of international conferences as the chair and given speeches and keynote speeches. There are 59 patents in his name. He has also won several provincial or ministry-level prizes.

Ding Shuiting

Ding Shuiting (1967.11—) is a professor and Dean of the School of Energy and Power Engineering (a national pilot school) of Beihang University. He received his doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 1998. He is a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program and Chief Scientist of the 973 Program. He is also Director and Chief Scientist of the Collaborative Innovation Center of Advanced Aero-engine sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Director of the International Centerof Energy and Environment, and Leader of the Innovation Team of Complex Aircraft Engine System Security of the Ministry of Education.

Prof. Ding has been engaging in research on system security and airworthiness of aircraft engines, the cooling of air system and hot end components, micro power, etc. He put forward a new basic theory and capture method of the load spectrum of the transition process of complex aircraft engines, discovered a new failure mode and solved a major problem concerning engine blades during transition. He also developed two-stage turbocharging system and innovated a new two-stage compressor structure independently, which are now taking a lead internationally in terms of technical indices.

He has published 198 papers in journals indexed by SCI and EI and obtained 32 patents. In recent years, he has been in charge of over 10 major projects of the National Defense 973 Program, scientific research of civil aircraft and so on. He has received a second prize of State Technological Invention Award, asecond prize of National Defense Technological Invention Award, first, second and third prizes of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award, a first prize of Beijing Teaching Achievement Award, the Baosteel Education Award for Excellent Teachers and so on.

Song Ningfang

Song Ningfang

Song Ningfang (1968.5—) is a researcher and Head of the Department of Opto-electronics of the School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, Beihang University. She received her doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 2004. She is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, a Chief Scientist of the 973 Program, a selected member of the New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, etc.

Prof. Song has been dedicating herself to the research on fiber-optic gyroscope and its inertial system. She has taken charge of more than 30 projects supported by the 973 Program, the 863 Program, Key Research Programs of Instrument of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and so on. Her research achievements have been successfully applied to a number of national key projects and major national defense programs. The polymorphic fiber-optic gyroscope developed by her has been equipped in large batch. In recent years, she has also been studying the application technology of photonic crystal fiberand quantum interference measurement. She led the development of the high-precision photonic crystal fiber gyroscopes used in Tianzhou-1, which was the first of its kind to be applied in space.

She has published over 50 papers in journals indexed by SCI and obtained over 80 national invention patents. She has won a series of technological awards, among which are two grand prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, two second prizes of State Technological Invention Award, a first prize and a second prize of Technological Invention Award of the Ministry of Education, a second prize of Military Science and Technology Progress Award, a second prize and a third prize of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award, etc.

Long Weiqiu

Long Weiqiu

Long Weiqiu (1968.9—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Law of Beihang University. He received his doctor’s degree from the China University of Political Science and Law in 1998. In 2014, he was selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program. He was also a council member of China Law Society and its branches in civil law, legal education, etc.

His research interests include civil and commercial law and information law. He has made a pioneering contribution to Industry and Information Technology Law (including Network Law, Aeronautic and Astronautic Law, Spectrum Communications Law, and Radio Regulations). He has also been engaging in the compilation of Contract Law, Property Law, Tort Liability Law, and the current compiling of Civil Code.

He has published over 10 books like Foundations of Civil Law and New Developments, as well as over 100 papers in Chinese core journals such as Social Sciences in China, Chinese Journal of Law, China Legal Science and so on. He has headed and completed more than 30 projects, including major projects of National Social Sciences Fund, entrusted projects by the NPC standing committee and major entrusted projects by the Supreme People’s Court.

Guo Hongbo (1971.1—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Vice Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2014, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2015.

Prof. Guo received his doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 2001. His research focuses on high temperature thermal barrier coatings of aircraft engines. He developed an ultra-high temperature thermal barrier coating that could withstand a temperature of over 1300℃ and became the first to try the new generation of ultra-high temperature thermal barriers in key hot section components of aircraft engines. He also invented a long-life thermal barrier coating that includes in-plane partitioned structure, which has been successfully applied to the blades of China’s advanced aircraft engines.

In recent years, he has led over 20 national projects and published more than 130 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index. He also holds over 30 patents. At the invitation of Woodhead Publishing, he co-edited a book named Thermal Barrier Coatings, which was the first of its kind. He has won a first prize of the State Technological Invention Award and some other national or ministry-level prizes.

Lu Guanghong

Lu Guanghong (1969.9—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Physics and Nuclear Energy Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

He received his doctor’s degree from the University of Tokyo in 2001. His research focuses on nuclear materials, particularly the simulation and experimental research of metallic materials in fusion reactors. He has undertaken two International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor projects as a chief scientist and seven projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is the editor of three collections and the author of more than 100 papers published in journals indexed by the Science Citation Index (including 2 in PRL, 12 in PRB/APL, 10 in Nuclear Fusion and over 20 in J. Nucl. Mater.). He also holds four patents.

Yang Lijun

Yang Lijun

Yang Lijun (1970.6—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Astronautics and Vice Director of the Institute of Science and Technology of Beihang University. He received his doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 2004. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2015, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2016.

At present, Prof. Yang also works as the vice executive president of Beijing Thermophysics and Energy Engineering Society, a member of the committee for fluid mechanics and vice leader of the panel for non-Newtonian fluid mechanics of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and an editor of the fifth and sixth editorial board of Journal of Aerospace Power.

He has led over 40 national projects and published more than 60 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index. He has also edited a textbook about the design of the thrust chamber of liquid rocket engines and won three national, ministry-level or city-level prizes. Besides, he has 20 patents in his name.‍

Wu Huaining

Wu Huaining

Wu Huaining (1972.11—) is a professor and PhD supervisor of the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Wu received his doctor’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1997. His research focuses on the theory and application of robust and fault-tolerant control, intelligent control and distributed parameter control systems. He brought up a low-dimensional intelligent control method for non-linear distributed parameter systems, which is easier to implement in engineering. His contributions also include a fuzzy control theory for non-linear distributed parameter systems that is based on a fuzzy PDE model, an optimal control algorithm via off-policy reinforcement learning and so on.

In recent years, he has led or participated in over ten research projects and published more than 100 papers in journals indexed by the Science Citation Index. He serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, and the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man & Cybernetics: Systems. He was listed in Elsevier’s annual list of Most Cited Chinese Researchers. He has won a second prize of the State Natural Science Award and a prize for excellent PhD supervisor awarded by the Chinese Association of Automation.

Wei Zhenzhong

Wei Zhenzhong

Wei Zhenzhong (1972.11—) is a professor and PhD supervisor in the School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Wei received his doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 2003. His research focuses on computer vision, particularly in image processing and pattern recognition, position and orientation measurement and object tracking, etc. He has made several contributions to the field. For example, he proposed the new methods of field flexible calibration and expanded the field calibration system of visual measurement. He has developed a set of equipment, such as the dynamic testing stations of the flight performance of aviation, to assist in the research, production and test flight of air-to-air missiles, fighters, drones, airliners and so on. His work has produced significant economic and social benefits.

He has led more than ten national projects and published 36 papers in journals indexed by the Science Citation Index. He also holds 32 patents. He has won two second prizes of the State Technological Invention Award and four provincial or ministry-level prizes.

Wang qingyun

Wang qingyun

Wang Qingyun (1972.2—) is a professor and PhD supervisor in the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering of Beihang University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2013, and elected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program in 2016.

Prof. Wang received doctor’s degree from Beihang University in 2006. He mainly studies neural dynamics and dynamics of complex networks. His research aims at establishing the theoretical model about themechanism of the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the nervous system, and developing the theoretical method of precise positioning of focal lesions in the nervous system. In addition, he also develops the method and technology of controlling nervous system diseases. His work provides the reliable theoretical foundation for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of such diseases.

He has led more than ten national, provincial or ministry-level projects and published more than 90 journal papers indexed by the Science Citation Index. The papers were cited more than 2600 times. Three of his papers were selected as Highly Cited Papers by Essential Science Indicators (ESI). He has also won a provincial prize, a ministry-level prize and so on.

Liu Gang

Liu Gang

Liu Gang (1970.3—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Vice Dean of the School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering of Beihang University. In 2016, He was selected as a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program.

Prof. Liu received his doctor’s degree from Dalian University of Technology in 2001. His research focuses on maglev inertial actuators and inertially stabilized platforms, high-speed maglev motors and their application, ultra-sensitive atomic magnetic field measurement, etc. He made breakthroughs in key technologies of maglev bearings, high-speed motor drive, efficient magnetic anomaly detection based on atomic magnetometer and so on, successfully developing China’s first maglev flywheel and prototype of magnetically suspended control moment gyroscope, an ultra-high vacuummaglev molecular pump that is internationally advanced, and an ultra-sensitive measurement and research device of magnetic fields that leads the world in this field.

He has taken charge of more than 10 national projects concerning instrumentation, national defense and civil space research. His publications include 28 papers in journals indexed by SCI, 32 papers in journals indexed by EI, and a monograph titled Control Technology and Application of Brushless DC Permanent Magnet Motors. He won a first prize (in 2007) and a second prize (in 2017) of State Technological Invention Award, a first prize of National Defense Technological Invention Award and a first prize of the Technological Invention Award of the Ministry of Education in 2016.‍

Shi Chuang

Shi Chuang

Shi Chuang (1968.6—) is a professor and PhD supervisor in the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of Beihang University. He has worked as an expert in the field of earth observation and navigation of the 863 Program, Leader of the expert panel of the navigation and location-based service project of the 12th Five-Year Plan, and Deputy Chief Designer of the “National BeiDou Ground-Based Augmentation System”. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

His research interests cover high-precision GNSS theories, software systems and applications. He has been in charge of developing China’s independent software system on navigation satellite precise orbit determination and positioning, wide-area real-time precise positioning system, key technology of BeiDou Ground-Based Augmentation System and other national key research and development tasks. His research achievements have been successfully applied in the “BeiDou navigation major project”, “XiHe System”, “National BeiDou Ground-Based Augmentation System” and other major scientific and technological projects.

Prof. Shi has published more than 100 academic papers which have over 3,000 citations, 68 of which are in journals indexed by the Science Citation Index. He holds 18 patents and has the copyright on five pieces of software. He has been ranked the first laureate for two National Science and Technology Progress Prizes, and granted more than ten provincial or ministry-level prizes.

Lin Jing

Lin Jing

Lin Jing (1971.5—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Reliability and Systems Engineering of Beihang University. He is a distinguished professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Prof. Lin received his doctor's degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1999. His research interests include machinery dynamic testing and fault diagnosis and industrial big data. He brought up the idea of wavelet entropy, the first wavelet-based quantitative optimization principle in the world, and a parameter selection strategy for generalized threshold de-noising model and maximum likelihood threshold model. He also developed anon-orthogonal wavelet de-nosing method, a wavelet-based independent component analysis model and an adaptive wavelet-based filtering model. His work contributes to the development of transient signal processing.

Prof. Lin has published over 80 papers in journals listed in the Science Citation Index, and won a second prize of the State Natural Science Award in 2013. His research has been applied to the fields of energy and power, petrochemistry, equipment manufacturing, rail transit, architecture, biology, electrical engineering and oceanography.
