In mainland China, all disciplines are grouped into 13 classes, namely Philosophy, History, Economics, Law, Education, Literature, Science, Technology, Medicine, Agriculture, Military, Management and Art. Each class comprises a number of level-1 disciplines and each level-1 discipline cover several level-2 disciplines(or fields). Technology(code 08)is the largest class, having 38 level-1 disciplines. Graduate students are enrolled and educated according to the level-2 discipline(field). BUAA offers doctoral programs in 84 fields(involved in such 5 classes as Science, Technology, Management, Law and Literature), master programs in more than 170 fields(involved in all classes except History, Agriculture and Military)and bachelor programs in 52 subjects. The university owns 8 national key level-1 disciplines and 2 national key level-2 disciplines. These 8 national key level-1 disciplines cover 26 level-2 disciplines. The number of national key level-1 disciplines is ranked at No.7 in all Chinese universities. These are evaluated and published by the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education regularly organizes survey and evaluation to level-1 disciplines. All universities volunteer to participate in the evalustion. The following table shows to results of Beihang University’s level-1 disciplines in the latest two times of evalution.
