BUAA is noted for its galaxy of professors. In recent years, regarding qualified personnel as the key resource for development, the university has put more emphasis on the establishment of faculty under the principle of "improving qualities of education, controlling scale, upgrading the educational structure, optimizing working conditions, adopting scientific management." Currently, there are over 3300 faculty and staff, including 13 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering Sciences (CAES), 11 "Changjiang" Scholars, 11 experts with outstanding contributions at the national level, 315 supervisors of doctorate programs and over 100 recipients of special subsidies from the national government. The university ranks among the foremost in China in terms of the percentage of Ph.D holders in the teaching faculty. With the further optimization in the age and academic structure of the faculty, the teaching and academic level of the entire faculty is advancing steadily.
