Abstract:The University of Arkansas is rated as a Carnegie Foundation “RU/VH” (Research University/Very High) university. Our College of Engineering is made up of eight engineering departments whose faculty research strengths include electronics, healthcare, nanomaterials, and transportation logistics. An overview of the research centers and programs and the engineering challenges they are working to solve will be discussed. A focused discussion of the research projects being conducted within the Maritime Transportation Research and Education Center will be presented including work related to resilience and reliability of transportation infrastructure systems and maritime freight logistics.      

 

Bio of the Speaker:Dr. Heather Nachtmann is the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and a Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Nachtmann is a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management and Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and an associate editor for The Engineering Economist and Engineering Management journals.
