Release time：October 12, 2015 /
Winter has always been a good season for balls. At the end of 2014, massive invitations of the Annual Ball hold by Student Union were spread out to all the students in Beihang University.
Beihang University Annual Ball was found and hosted by Student Union with the support from other universities in Beijing in last three years. As time goes by, the ball witnessed the growth of Student Union, and their success demonstrated their sense of responsibility and the spirit of innovation.
Doomsday & Rebirth
In the end of 2012, Doomsday rumour spreads. Doomsday party was the idea first came out from Lin Fang and Li Ke-yi, the former executive secretaries of public relations department of Beihang Student Union, even the theory of doomsday in 2012 arose enormous panic among people all over the world. Therefor, the party was set on the background of the rebirth day of the earth to celebrate the survival of human beings and the bright future people were confronted with. This idea soon got supported by other members of Student Union and the preparation was started. It was a brave attempt to hold a ball themed doomsday, and it was a good news for the students in Sha He campus, because they hardly had the chance to get involved in a marvelous activity like this. However, the preparation wasnt an easy thing for Student Union whom lacked both the experience and help. In the time of difficulties, Li Ke-yi, the executive secretaries encouraged his members to make phonecalls, to contact sponsors, and finally the venue of the ball was settled to be the Dragon City Ramada hotel.
It has been two years since the ball was held, but when recalling that day, Li Ke-yi still gets emotional. He told us that to live the theme of the ball and to create a better atmosphere, many pictures in the brochures and on the display boards were painted by hand. Students in School of New Media Art and Science had devoted a lot to the design and fabrication of those brochures and display boards, which turned out to be a great success. Zhang Peng-yuan, a member of Student Union who also participated in the preparation and organization of the ball, talked about his experience on that day. In his eyes, the most memorial moment of that day was when everyone started to dance to the music. He felt all the time and effort he devoted to this ball paid off, and that sense of affection would remain in his mind for ever.
In the year of 2013, many former organizer of the ball grew to be the leader of Student Union, and the duty to pass down the tradition of the Annual Ball fell on their shoulders. To inherit the theme of youth of the ball, they proposed the project of “Dream Maker”. Wang Zi-jue, the former executive secretary, said that the ball became a tradition of Beihang University with more participation of other universities. All departments of Student Union worked together to make a successful ball.
Different from the doomsday ball, this time they adopted diverse ways to advertise, such as playing advertisement on the televisions of canteen, presiding online chat and organizing dance class. Niu Jia-ji, one of the organizer of the ball, told us the four organizers hardly slept when preparing for the ball, and they discussed all night to check everything, and tried their best to avoid mistakes. With the legacy of connections with sponsors and of experience left by the predecessors, they were determined to make a better ball than the last one. To fulfill their goal, they once slept less than four hours for five consecutive days, but they did not feel exhausted, because they worked together and finally designed a series of refined posters and display board.
In the Annual Ball of “Dream Maker”, the programs such as solo singing, social dance performance and band performance were inherited, and on top of these reserved programs, the organizers also devised a new section for the ball when everyone was free to perform on the center of the ballroom.
Radon• New Age
On December 27th, 2014, the Annual Ball was held on the theme of “Radon”. “Radon” is a chemical element, and it gives out beautiful colors when put in electric circuit. Besides, in Chinese, the pronunciation of “Radon” was similar to winter, which helped to reveal the fact that the ball was held in winter.
As the element of “Radon” can give out colorful lights, the seemingly plain students in Beihang Universities also had the ability to shine in front of people. The Annual Ball of 2014 turned the light to the ordinary students in Beihang University and provided them with an opportunity to make acquaintance with students of other universities.
The Annual Ball of “Dream Maker” in 2013 was supported by 3 other universities, and in 2014, they developed a partnership with Beijing University of Chemical Technology, which surely expanded the influence of the Annual Ball. To stand out the individuals’ character, organizers came up with many interesting ideas, one of which was to invite some famous actors and actresses in China to record videos to help advertise the ball. Everyone in the Student Union contributed to it, some writing scheme, and some inviting celebrities.
Students who participated in the ball considered that night a wonderful time, and they appreciated the opportunity to relax and to present themselves. The ball refreshed them and got them loaded for dealing with pressure from academic world.
The Annual Ball held by Student Union grows mature during the three years, and it has always been a tradition of Beihang University which brings surprisingly pleasure to all the students. From the “Doomsday & Rebirth”, to “Dream Maker” and “Radon & New Age”, a lot of BUAAers (students of BUAA) learned how to build relationship with others, and how to make contact with the business world.
We are looking forward to the next Annual Ball, and all of you are welcome to join us!
