In this news report, we take a look back at ten major events selected and voted by our students and faculty and staff members that shape the year of 2022 at Beihang University.
1. Beihang Fully Implemented the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China
On October 16, 2022, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was convened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Beihang actively organized students and the faculty and staff members to watch the live broadcast of the opening session of the Congress and enthusiastically discussed key points of the report. Beihang has always been engaged in promoting patriotic education and dedicated to carrying forward the guiding principles of the Congress through various activities covering all different groups. The achievements of the University’s study and implementation of the spirit of the 20th National Party Congress were reported in a full-page special edition of Guangming Daily.
2. Beihang Held the 70th Anniversary Convocation and Serial Activities
On October 25, 2022, Beihang University held a grand ceremony to celebrate its 70th anniversary. Moreover, a series of activities including the Alumni Innovation Forum, anniversary carnival, and sports meeting were conducted.
One day before the 70th anniversary, the Beihang University History Museum was officially unveiled. On the 100-day countdown to the anniversary, alumnus Xia Wei donated 100 million yuan to Beihang University. The Anniversary MV and the live streaming on anniversary day have racked up over 80 million views. All the activities celebrating the 70th anniversary reflected on the glorious history of Beihang University over the past 70 years and looked forward to the bright vision of building Beihang into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
3. Beihang Spared No Effort to Prevent and Control the Pandemic
In 2022, facing the COVID-19 pandemic, under the leadership of the university’s Party Committee, Beihang continued to consolidate prevention and control methods. Medical and nursing staff, logistics staff, security cadres, teachers, and student volunteers did their best to build a line of defense against the pandemic with all their might and guard the health and safety of all teachers and students.
4. Beihang Volunteers Served the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games
428 students and teachers from Beihang were selected as volunteers for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and some of them received awards for their contributions.
The university gave full play to its advantages in scientific research, and many scientific research results were directly applied in various key fields. A number of faculty and staff members from Beihang undertook key work in many links of the Winter Olympics.
5. Beihang Held Talent Training Conference and Built a High-Quality Talent-Training System
On January 12, 2022, Beihang University held the 2022 Talent Training Conference, and released the White Paper on Beihang University’s Pioneering Action Plan for Talent Training in a New Era.
In 2022, Beihang teachers shined for their expertise and professionalism, winning a lot of honors, including but not limited to the title of Huang Danian Style Teaching Team and Beijing Distinguished Teacher for Universities and Colleges. Beihang students achieved outstanding results in various competitions, such as Challenge Cup competitions and the “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
6. Beihang Held National Engineer Training Promotion Conference and the First Outstanding Engineer Training Forum
On September 27, 2022, the National Engineer Training Promotion Conference and the First Outstanding Engineer Training Forum were held at Beihang University. At the meeting, the first batch of 18 construction units of the National Academy of Excellent Engineers jointly issued the Beijing Declaration on Cultivating Excellent Engineers. Since the beginning of this year, Beihang University has actively promoted the establishment of a national outstanding engineer training industry-education alliance, and continuously innovated the talent training model and organizational mechanism for the integration of production and education. Beihang University will continue to explore the road to the self-cultivation of excellent engineers in the new era.
7. Beihang Launched “Dare To Do” Plan in Scientific Research and Achieved Breakthroughs in Various Fields
On June 1, 2022, Beihang University’s scientific research “Dare to Do” plan, which aimed to create an atmosphere of daring to do scientific research and stimulate the innovative vitality of teachers and students, was officially launched.
The university has undertaken a number of major scientific research tasks, made major breakthroughs in key core technologies, and solved a number of bottleneck problems. A number of research teams published their latest research results in journals such as Science, leading the international academic frontier.
Beihang teachers and students have shouldered great responsibility in national major projects, and made consistent contributions in the field of aerospace. Three Beihang alumni won the 2022 Aerospace Laureate Awards.
8. Beihang Convened a Meeting on Talent Work, Thoroughly Implementing the Strategy of Strengthening the University with Talents
On June 22, 2022, Beihang held a conference on talent work to designate its Blue Sky New Era Talent Action Plan, adhering to the idea of talent as the first resource and implementing the strategy of strengthening the university with talents. On September 9, 2022, Beihang held a commendation meeting to celebrate the 38th Teachers’ Day. Academician Chen Maozhang and Academician Zhong Qunpeng were honored with Beihang Accomplishment Award for Moral Achievement and Talent Cultivation, five teachers won Beihang Excellence Award for Moral Achievement and Talent Cultivation, and eight teachers were awarded Beihang Distinction Award for Moral Achievement and Talent Cultivation.
Beihang focused on the introduction and training of talent. More than one hundred new personnel have joined the university, among them were winners of China Youth Science and Technology Award, Science Exploration Award, Baosteel Excellent Teachers, etc. The Beihang University Vision Forum for International Young Scholars provided a platform for high-quality talent to exchange ideas. Ten new research centers have been set up by International Research Institute for Multidisciplinary Science.
9. Beihang Made Landmarks of Two Campuses Debut and Created an Environment Suitable for Study and Life
In 2022, Beihang stuck to building a green, smart, and sustainable campus as a series of landmarks completed. The Main Building groups on Xueyuan Road campus were given a completely new look. “Alumni Home” provided services for all graduates and alumni as a liaison center. The Culture Exchange Center on Shahe campus aimed to become an academic platform for gathering talent in scientific innovation and encouraging creativity. The No. 8 building on Shahe campus has been fully operational.
On September 24, 2022, a group wedding ceremony for 19 young teacher couples was held on Xueyuan Road campus on the occasion of one-month countdown to Beihang’s 70th anniversary. Besides, Beihang has extended the warmest wish to all senior people online.
10. Beihang Deepened a Comprehensive Reform and Promoted the Construction of a World-Class University and First-Class Disciplines
In 2022, Beihang has further deepened a comprehensive reform and strived to explore a new path to build itself into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. The university concentrated on service amelioration and infrastructure digitalization, launching platforms for coordination in scientific research and education.
The university has made new breakthroughs in discipline construction. Eight disciplines entered a new round of "double first-class" construction. Remarkable achievements have been made in the five major disciplinary groups.
