The landscape of a global campus beyond the traditional definition is revealing itself at Beihang University. Here study is not only in spring and autumn semesters or limited to an activity within the two campuses of the university. During the summer, the classroom expands to every corner of the world and a diversity of cultures are available to the students, which helps broaden their horizons and enhance their academic abilities, understanding of the world and competitiveness.
A Review of Beihang Summer Programs in 2019
Summer School of Chung Yuan Christian University
Ten students from the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Foreign Languages and so on took part in the 8th Summer Training Camp for Students from Chinese Mainland, which attracted 108 students from 12 universities in Chinese Mainland.
Summer School of Technion-Israel Institute of Technology
Five students from the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, the School of Foreign Languages and so on took part in the summer school program of Technion-Israel Institute of Technology from July 30 to August 22. The program received support from the Council for Higher Education of Israel and attracted over 140 students from universities in China, Singapore, etc.
TUM Asia Summer School
26 students from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, the School of General Engineering and other two schools attended the TUM Asia Summer School from July 28 to August 6.
UBC Vancouver Summer Program
32 students from the School of Aeronautical Science and Engineering, the School of Foreign Languages, Shen Yuan Honors College, Beihang School and other 10 schools attended the four-week University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver Summer Program from July 13 to August 13.
Summer Camp in Russia
81 students from 21 schools/colleges participated in five summer schools held by Beihang’s partner universities during this summer, just months before the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between China and Russia. The partner universities were Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, ITMO University, Samara University, Ural Federal University and Moscow Aviation Institute.
Summer Exchange Programs of Beihang School
Over 300 students from the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2022 of Beihang School participated in short-term exchange activities abroad over a span of two weeks to one month, setting foot on the United Kingdom, Russia, Canada, Australia, Germany, Czech Republic, Japan, Belgium, South Korea, Singapore and so on. These activities were organized by Beihang School and its colleges to meet the requirements of the university about internationalized talent cultivation.
Sakura Science Plan
Seven students and teachers of the School of General Engineering participated in a science exchange activity in Japan from August 26 to September 1. The trip had a goal of promoting the scientific and cultural exchanges between China and Japan and equipping the students with a more international perspective. It received great support from Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Japan Science and Technology Agency and was made possible through the joint efforts of Beihang University and Kogakuin University.
UCL Summer School
Two batches of Beihang students took part in the University College London (UCL) Summer School from July 1 to August 9. The 43 students came from the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, the School of Computer Science and Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Mathematical Sciences, the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Foreign Languages. In total the summer school attracted over 700 participants from more than 50 countries and regions around the world.
Summer School of Tampere University
30 students from the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering and Shie College attended the Beihang-Tampere Summer School from July 7 to 22, 2019. The program was aimed at broadening the horizon of the students, familiarizing them with the European education system as well as education and teaching models, providing access to Finnish culture, promoting the exchanges and cooperation between students, and enhancing their capacities to interact with the global society.
