Beihang deepens institutional and mechanism innovation to invigorate scientific and technological innovation. With the goal of supporting high-quality national development, the university targets urgent national needs and promotes the establishment of special research institutions, such as the Research Institute of Aero-Engine, the Institute of Unmanned System, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, and the International Institute for Interdisciplinary and Frontiers. These initiatives are designed to optimize the allocation of personnel, financial, and material resources, forming an institutional layout that combines colleges with research institutes. Beihang develops an integrated innovation capacity from foundational research to key technologies, simulation platforms, and validation environments. This transition from single-point to systematic innovation is set to create a new hallmark for Beihang's scientific and technological advancements in the new era.


Beihang is committed to tackling key technology challenges to enhance its capabilities to serve the nation. Focused on addressing bottlenecks that constrain industry development through self-reliant innovation, Beihang leverages its strengths in aerospace technology, information technology, materials manufacturing, instrumentation science, and control science. Led by academicians and high-caliber talents, research teams collaborate with key industry enterprises and research institutions on critical missions and projects. Achievements in major projects, such as certain aircraft, have reached world-advanced levels, contributing to the creation of pillars of the great power. Core technologies, including additive manufacturing, electromagnetic safety, and high-temperature coatings, have solved bottleneck problems, becoming pivotal support for the successful development of many advanced models. Innovations such as drones and air traffic control training have been applied across China's highlands and maritime borders, making significant contributions to safeguarding national sovereignty.



Beihang aims at international academic frontiers to enhance its level of basic research. Seizing the opportunity brought by major national science and technology projects, the university takes on a series of fundamental research tasks, solidifying the foundation in various fields, exploring the frontiers of disciplines, and underpinning sustainable development. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan," original results represented by 19 papers in Nature and Science have taken the lead in the international academic frontier in fields such as thermoelectric materials, magnetic storage materials, and bionic intelligent interfaces. The university strengthens interdisciplinary integration, forms joint teams, and insists on refining scientific questions, nurturing outstanding talent and achieving original innovations. It particularly focuses on long-term, systematic academic challenges in areas such as spintronics, brain science and brain-like research, advanced materials, and quantum measurement. In biomedical engineering, original achievements in surgical robots and big data-based precision medicine fill domestic gaps.


Beihang optimizes the system of scientific and technological innovation to improve its strategic scientific and technological strength. A comprehensive innovation platform system is being constructed, with national-level platforms as the core, provincial and ministerial-level platforms as the foundation, and university-level education and research collaboration platforms as the support. It leads the establishment of eight national key laboratories, co-establishes 12 others, and has obtained approval for three national industry-education integration innovation platforms. It also boasts eight national-level innovation bases, four Beijing high-end innovation centers, and 83 provincial and ministerial-level key laboratories. Fully leveraging the advantages of profound basic research and interdisciplinary integration, the university transforms its high-level research capabilities into high-quality education capabilities, deeply integrating the systems of scientific and technological innovation, industry, and talent cultivation. It fully promotes the opening of research laboratories to undergraduate students, facilitating the transformation of research resources into teaching resources, where student achievements in research classes lead to patent applications and awards in numerous innovation competitions.



Beihang improves its system of commercialization of research outcomes and serves local economic and social development. By connecting the "industry-university-research-application" chain, the university accelerates the conversion of scientific and technological achievements, actively engaging in technological cooperation with leading enterprises, promoting the establishment of joint laboratories, and fostering new types of R&D institutions. Within the framework of university-enterprise collaborative innovation, it forms a full-chain model of technological innovation led by enterprises, oriented by market, and deeply integrated with industry, academia, research, and application. The university has strengthened its technology transfer system by establishing specialized technology transfer agencies, effectively facilitating the implementation and commercialization of a number of significant scientific and technological achievements. It has set up the Zhongguancun Science City Concept Verification Center and the High-value Patent Cultivation and Layout Center in Haidian District, and inaugurated the Beijing Technology Transfer and Commercialization Center, enhancing intellectual property operations and the capability for the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. The university has deepened strategic collaborations with local governments, including Haidian District, Changping District, Fangshan District and the Economic-Technological Development Area. It also leads the co-construction of the Aerospace Technology Future Industry Science Park (one of the first ten nationwide) with the Zhongguancun Science City Management Committee and the Shahe Higher Education Park Management Committee.
