Aerodynamics is a basic specialized course that integrates theory and practice closely, one that has been receiving great attention from Beihang University since its foundation. During the teaching reforms, the teachers constantly keep track of the course’s historical evolution, inherit, construct and pass on its main theoretical system, and stick to experimental verification and engineering application. They adhere to the scientific ideas of the Göttingen school of applied mechanics and guide the students towards inspiration, questions, interest and innovation derived from natural phenomena and the flight of birds. In this lecture, Prof. Liu will introduce the reform and reflection concerning the theoretical, experimental and practical teaching of aerodynamics. For theoretical teaching, the teachers promote a heuristic teaching mode driven by questions. To develop the experimental classes, they actively apply advanced research equipment to undergraduate education to improve the students’ ability to put ideas into practice and cultivate a sense of innovation among them.
Prof. Liu Peiqing now serves as Director of Lu Shijia Laboratory of Beihang University (the Key Laboratory of Aeroacoustics of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), a professor responsible for the Key Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics of the Ministry of Education and a PhD supervisor. He is the person in charge of the national quality course of aerodynamics and Director of Beihang’s national-level Aeronautical and Astronautical Experimental Teaching Center with the title of Beijing Distinguished Teacher. He also serves as a member of the Sixth Council of Chinese Aerodynamics Research Society, Leader of the Subsidiary Panel of Industrial Fluid Mechanics of the 10th Working Party of Fluid Mechanics under the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Leader of the National Teaching Guidance Group of Aerodynamics and a member in aerodynamics of the sixth batch of Chief Science Communication Experts recruited by the China Association for Science and Technology.
