Photo Alignable and Switchable Nano-Rods for Display Application
Release time:December 7, 2018

Topic: Photo Alignable and Switchable Nano-Rods for Display Application

Speaker: Abhishek Srivastava, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Time: 2:00-4:00 PM, December 10

Venue: B707, New Main Building

Abstract:

This seminar will include a novel approach to align nano-rods (NRs) in microscopically defined geometry. A Sulfonic azo dye layer on being irradiated by the polarized light creates a preferred easy axis that can be transferred to the NRs dispersed in polymer coated on the top of it. These aligned NRs, on being illuminated by a polarized light, show polarized emission with an high extinction ratio. Potential applications can be polarized emission from aligned semiconducting NRs, which is believed to be a potential tool to improve the overall efficiency of the modern displays and photonic devices. Apart from customized photo-luminance, sub-micron alignment of NRs also offers many new features for other physical properties that will be discussed in the talk.
