Topic:Scientific Writing for Publication in Science, Engineering and Technology

Speaker: Professor Wuqiang Yang,The University of Manchester

Time: Wednesday, October 30, 3:30 pm

Venue: B707, New Main Building

Abstract:

Scientific writing and academic publication in English is important for both academics and students in their academic career. However, it may be difficult for young academics and students to write high-quality reports and scientific papers in English because of the lack of experience. This seminar is based on the speaker’s 30 year academic experience in the UK and his professional experience involving in journals, such as IEEE Trans. IM, IEEE Sensors J. and Meas. Sci. Technol., and organising international conferences. The following three topics will be discussed: (1) details in writing scientific papers, including structure, English language, and reference format, (2) publishing journal papers, including how to choose a journal, what are the impact factor and H-index, and a reviewing process, and (3) some issues on presentation in English at international conferences. This is an opportunity for young academics and students to gain knowledge in the above aspects, which may not be available elsewhere.
