Research Base of Beijing Science and Technology Innovation Center

The Research Base of Beijing Science and Technology Innovation Center is set up to meet the needs of national strategy and the development of Beijing as the capital city of China. With the goal to provide the theory foundation, intelligence support and decision reference for the development of the capital, it examines the evolvement law of international science and technology innovation centers and concentrates on the existing problems limiting the construction of science and technology innovation centers in Beijing. Besides, it focuses on three key processes including policy-making, mechanism design and talents guarantee, carrying out countermeasure research and basic theory research.

Professor Zhang Jun, former Secretary of the Party committee at Beihang University and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, is the chief expert of the base. Professor Long Weiqiu, Dean of the School of Law at Beihang University and a member of Chang Jiang Scholars Program, works as the director of the base. Integrating the elite resources of liberal arts education of Beihang university and its outstanding engineering resources, this base establishes a multidisciplinary interaction mechanism. After preliminary preparation, the base has built a multidisciplinary research team with over 40 researchers from inside and outside of the university, among whom 80% have senior professional titles.

The base explores a collaborative innovation alliance with the combination of government, industry, universities and research institutes, and forms an open strategy-research platform which links theory with practice. Its main cooperators include Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, Stanford University, Toronto University, Free University of Brussels, etc.
