Zhao Qinping is a professor of Beihang University, and the director of State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems. He is also a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (elected in 2013).
Prof. Zhao has conducted research on artificial intelligenceand virtual reality since 1982. As one of the pioneers in China’s VR research, he held and accomplished more than 20 national science and technology programs, including National Natural Science Foundation, National High-tech R&D Program and the National Basic Research Program of China. To honour his significant work, the Ministry of Science and Technology commended his contribution both in 1991 and 2001.
Taking a lead in the research on machine analogical reasoning, Prof. Zhao has directed the design of analogical reasoning chip machine, and established the analogical reasoning machine system through a combination of software and hardware. He has directed the establishment of China's first distributed virtual environment DVENET based on specialized computer WAN, the development of the real-time 3D graph platform BH_GRAPH with IIPR and the distributed interactive simulation application operation platform BH_RTI; he has also developed several virtual reality application systems which have great influence in China.
He won the first prize for the National Science and Technology Progress Award as the leading scientist in 2010. In 2012, he was awarded Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation for Progress in Science and Technology. By now, he has published four academic monographs, more than 200 papers and 60 national authorized patents.
