Yang Fengtian (1941—) is a famous aircraft chief designer in China, a pioneer and founder of new energy (electric, hydrogen) aircraft, and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Yang Fengtian is honorary president of Shenyang Aerospace University, chief scientist of Liaoning General Aviation Academy, and chief expert of AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Design & Research Institute. He has won the Aviation Gold Medal, the grand prize of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress, the Preeminent Science and Technology Award of Liaoning Province, the Labor Model in the National Defense Science and Technology Industry, and the May 1st Labor Medal of Liaoning Province.
In the past six decades, he has been committed to the aviation cause. He served as the chief designer of five types of J-8 aircraft series, leading the team to create four first-of-its-kinds in the development process. In 2010, he was assigned president of Shenyang Aerospace University, greatly improving the university's education capability. The university was granted the exam-free recommendation right for master’s degrees in 2017, and authorized for doctoral degrees in 2018. In 2011, he established Liaoning General Aviation Academy and served as its first president, carrying out research and development of the RX new energy aircraft series. Among the products, RX1E is the world’s firstelectric aircraft to have obtained the certificate and production license from civil aviation authorities; RX1E-A is the electric aircraft with the longest duration in the world; RX1E-S is the only electric seaplane in the world; RX4HE prototype is the world's first new energy aircraft powered by a hydrogen internal combustion engine.
