Zheng Zhiyong (1963.5—) is a professor and PhD supervisor as well as Dean of the School of Mathematics and Systems Science of Beihang University. He received his doctor’s degree from Shandong University in 1991.

His research focuses on analytic number theory. He has made major contributions to the geometric theory of exponential sums and character sums, which is highly valued by the international academia. His work has been cited by Prof. Jean Bourgain, a Fields Medal winner, and Prof. Igor Shparlinski, a fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, for over 60 times, which is rarely seen in the field of number theory. Recently, he has made a breakthrough in the geometric theory and analytic method in function fields—He successfully solved the problem of high-dimensional rational approximation by the Haar measure and Haar integral.

He has been sponsored by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars for three times. He was a senior visiting scholar at Princeton University in 1995. In 1998, he began to enjoy the special government allowance from the State Council of China.
