On January 24, Gui Haichao, Chinese astronaut and professor of School of Astronautics, returned to Beihang University and exchanged ideas with teachers and students in the Ruxin Lecture Hall on the Xueyuan Road Campus. Beihang Party Committee Secretary Zhao Changlu, President Wang Yunpeng, all leaders of the university, heads of several departments, and student representatives, participated in the exchange meeting.
The meeting kicked off with a video review of the manned mission of Shenzhou-16. On May 30, 2023, Jing Haipeng, Zhu Yangzhu and Gui Haichao flew into space on the Shenzhou spacecraft, and the re-entry capsule of the Shenzhou-16 manned spacecraft successfully landed on the Dongfeng landing site on October 31, with the three astronauts in good health. The manned mission of Shenzhou-16 was a complete success.
In the communication and sharing session, Gui Haichao shared with the teachers and students his study and growth experience in Beihang, as well as the bits and pieces during the mission, focusing on his in-orbit life, and sent a message to the students to closely link their personal growth with the development of the country, and to maintain the love and dream for the aerospace industry forever. All the teachers and students present were deeply moved.
Gui Haichao emotionally recalled the scene when he watched the live broadcast of Shenzhou VI's return in this lecture hall. In his speech, Gui Haichao thanked the Party and the country for their cultivation and trust.
Prof. Gui said that during the 154 days in orbit, the three astronauts worked closely with each other to carry out one extravehicular activity and the 4th space lecture activity of the China Space Station, and cooperated with each other to complete many cargo extravehicle tasks of the Space Station. He focused on scientific experiments, space station management and operation, health monitoring, daily life and records, science education activities and other related work carried out during his stay in orbit.
At the exchange meeting, Prof. Gui talked about how excited he was when the rocket lifted off, and he was not nervous at all and was very focused, on the one hand, to execute the procedures, and on the other hand, to feel and experience the flight process.
At the end of the exchange, Gui Haichao also said, "In the future, as a teacher, I hope to incorporate the gains and experiences, the experiences and lessons learned and thought during the training period and during the mission into the scientific research and curriculum teaching, and to cultivate more talents for China."
On behalf of the Party Committee of Beihang University, Zhao Changlu, in his speech, expressed his sincere congratulations and high respect to Prof. Gui. He said that Prof. Gui successfully completed the mission, made outstanding contributions to the national aerospace industry, and won the honor for Beihang.
At the end of the meeting, all the participants waved the national flag and sang "Ode to My Homeland" in unison.
