Beihang Delegation Attends 27th Leyva Astronomy Festival in Colombia

To promote the construction of “Global Beihang”, deepen the UPS international development strategy, and implement the 2024-2030 action plan for promoting high-quality development of international cooperation, Beihang University sent a delegation to visit Colombia, South America, and was invited to participate in the 27th Leyva Astronomy Festival in Colombia from March 14 to 19. The delegation visited the National University of Colombia and achieved fruitful results.

At the invitation of the Chinese Embassy in Colombia, the Beihang delegation attended the opening ceremony of the Astronomy Festival on March 15. Two teachers, Huang Hai from the School of Astronautics and Jin Tian from the Department of Academic Affairs, gave wonderful science popularization reports, introducing the latest achievements of Beihang in the research and development of small satellites in the Asia Pacific region and the application of Beidou navigation.

During the Astronomy Festival, the delegation met with Zhu Jingyang, the Chinese Ambassador to Colombia, and had exchanges with Mr. Victor, Mayor of Villa de Leyva. They also visited the National University of Colombia and communicated with five related universities in the field of astronomy, including Francisco Jose Caldas Regional University in Colombia and the Colombian Astronomy Association, reaching an intention to exchange students in various fields such as aviation, aerospace, astronomy, and information, and discussing future cooperation with Colombian higher education institutions in technology and talent cultivation, which enhanced Beihang's influence in Colombia.

The Leyva Astronomy Festival is the most important astronomical event in Colombia and also has great influence in Latin America. The 27th Leyva Astronomy Festival is the first time in history that China has been invited as the guest of honor. This event attracted more than 3,000 Colombian experts, scholars and enthusiasts in the field of astronomy, providing a rare exchange platform for the Beihang delegation.
