On the afternoon of June 24, Prof. Yiannis Ventikos, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Monash University, visited Beihang University. Beihang Vice President Zhao Weisheng met with the delegation in the fourth conference room of New Main Building, accompanied by representatives from the International Relations Department, the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, the School of Transportation Science and Engineering, and the School of Chemistry.
Zhao Weisheng warmly welcomed Ventikos and provided a detailed overview of Beihang’s recent developments in talent cultivation, scientific research, and global cooperation. He noted that Beihang University and Monash University enjoy a long-standing collaboration in such areas as student exchanges and faculty visits, and have a strong alignment in fields like materials science, biomedical engineering, transportation science, and chemistry. He hoped that both sides can further deepen practical cooperation in international talent cultivation and scientific research.
Prof. Yiannis Ventikos thanked Beihang for the warm reception and introduced Monash University’s approach to talent cultivation, teaching methods, and international collaboration. He emphasized the solid foundation of collaboration between the two universities and expressed a willingness to leverage their strengths for deeper cooperation in international summer schools, student exchanges, joint training programs, and academic and research collaborations.
Representatives from the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, the School of Transportation Science and Engineering, and the School of Chemistry introduced their respective schools and discussed international exchanges and cooperation. They proposed enhancing exchanges and cooperation in related disciplines and reached a consensus on topics such as student exchanges and joint training programs.
Before the meeting, the delegation visited the Center for Micro-Nano Innovation of Beihang (Beihang Nano) and the Beijing Air and Space Museum.
Monash University, established in 1958, is a public research university with six campuses in Melbourne and five international campuses in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Jakarta (Indonesia), Suzhou (China), Mumbai (India), and Prato (Italy). The Faculty of Engineering at Monash University is one of the largest in Australia, comprising five departments: Chemical and Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Beihang University and Monash University established a formal partnership in 2015 and have achieved fruitful results in international talent cultivation and faculty research collaboration over the past nine years.
