Beihang is a university of innovative excellence, with innovation embedded in its DNA. In its early years, Beihang faculty and students successfully developed China's first light passenger aircraft, the first drone, and Asia's first sounding rocket. Building on this legacy, Beihang continues to innovate in aerospace, contributing critical technologies to major national projects including the C919 large passenger aircraft, Long March rockets, Tiangong space station, BeiDou navigation system, Chang'e lunar exploration program, and Zhurong Mars rover. Moreover, the university has numerous research laboratories and centers at the forefront of scientific research and technological advancement. Keeping up with the latest trends in technology, industry, and social development, the university continuously refines its academic portfolio—strengthening foundational disciplines, fostering emerging and interdisciplinary fields, and enhancing full-chain innovation in fundamental research, key technologies, and application verification. It actively integrates into the global innovation network, leveraging its international platform to attract and cultivate world-class talent. Since 2004, Beihang has received 15 first-class national science and technology awards, including nine first prizes of the State Technological Invention Award—the highest number among Chinese universities.
