Beihang University, as the first institution of higher education in aeronautics and astronautics established after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, and takes serving the major strategic needs of the country as its highest pursuit and mission. Guided by the country's major strategic needs, Beihang University gives full play to its advantages in aerospace and information technology, focuses on independent innovation, and strives to solve the bottleneck problems that restrict the development of national industries. It also carries out basic and frontier research and key technical research to solve the bottleneck problems in key areas such as large aircraft and aero-engines. Beihang University has taken the lead in undertaking more than 100 major scientific research tasks, and made major breakthroughs in key core technologies such as engine blades, unmanned systems, additive manufacturing, test sites and electromagnetic compatibility. It has solved lots of "stuck neck" problems and these key core technologies have been applied on a large scale in many major models.

Facing the frontiers of science and technology in the world and focusing on the breakthroughs in major original innovation and key core technologies, Beihang university has strengthened the top-level design and forward-looking layout of basic research, comprehensively enhanced the capacity of original innovation and achieved a number of original results. The original achievements have been published in highly prestigious journals such as Nature and Science, leading the international academic frontiers in the fields of thermoelectric materials, magnetic storage materials, and bionic smart interfaces. The number of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) approved projects has exceeded 300 per year for five consecutive years, and 44 people are selected as "Global Highly Cited Scientists", which makes the echelon of basic research talents develop healthily. Beihang University also builds version 2.0 of the International Academy of Interdisciplinary Sciences, and creates a new highland for basic research with interdisciplinary integration as the catalyst.

Orientated towards people's life and health, combining the advantages of aerospace and information technology, and meeting the demand for high-end medical equipment and medical technology, Beihang university has systematically constructed the layout and organizational structure of medical and engineering disciplines, and has achieved a number of important results in the research of basic and key technologies of biomedical engineering. Beihang University independently develops China's first personalized modeling surgical simulator, China's first CFDA-certified neurosurgical robot, and China's first four-tone adjustable electronic throat, and transforms them into applications, filling the gaps in original achievements in surgical robots and big data-based precision medical care in China.

Beihang University comprehensively deepens the cooperation with leading enterprises such as AVIC, AECC, CASC, and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., builds a long-term mechanism for university-enterprise cooperation, and promotes the integration of the innovation chain and industrial chain. Beihang University also actively integrates into the major regional strategies such as the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
