School of Beijing

Founded in 2013, the School of Beijing is an experimental institution of higher education in Beijing established under the guidance of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education. It aims to advance the reform of the higher education system, build a platform forsharing high-quality educational resources across the capital, and support Beijing's development as a leading international metropolis. As the first physical School of Beijing in the city, it is recognized as a key project by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and contributes actively to the capital's "Four Centers" strategy.

The Dual-Training Program

In March 2015, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education issued the Plan for Interdisciplinary Training of High-Level Talents in Beijing's Institutions of Higher Education, with the Dual-Training Program as its first key initiative. This program brings together municipal and centrally-administered universities in Beijing to cultivate outstanding students through shared educational resources.

In the same year, the School of Beijing took on the talent cultivation task of the Dual-Training Program, and has continued to enroll students from six municipal universities, including Beijing University of Technology, Capital Medical University, Capital Normal University, Beijing Information Science & Technology University, North China University of Technology, and Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Over more than a decade, the School has admitted nearly 1,700 students in total under the program.

In 2025, Beihang University strengthened its collaboration under this framework by signing the Cooperation Agreement on the China-France Excellence Engineer Talent Training Program with Beijing Information Science & Technology University. The agreement aims to leverage the French engineer training model and the international environment of Sino-French engineer schools, so as to promote the cultivation of high-caliber talent with global vision and strong practical engineering capabilities.

Training Model

In the process of student cultivation, the School of Beijing adopts a student-centered approach and prioritizes enhancing the quality of talent training. It adheres to the training principles of "maintaining uncompromised course quality, unchanged training requirements, and consistent examination standards." This reflects the authentic talent cultivation philosophy of Beihang University and has led to the establishment of a distinctive quality assurance system under the Dual-Training Program.

The specifics are as follows:

• Establishing an independent management and operational entity for talenttraining, with a well-defined organizational structure and a comprehensive institutional framework.

• Implementing a talent training model centered on "centralized management and integrated class enrollment."

• Innovating student academic support through a combined approach of "assistance, tutoring, and motivation."

Training Outcomes

Through years of exploration and practice, the Dual-Training Program at the School of Beijing has consistently enhanced the quality of talent development, achieving notable outcomes:

Strong Performance in Practical and Innovative Competencies

Over 50% of the students have participated in academic and technological competitions at all levels, innovation and entrepreneurship contests, key scientific and technological innovation projects as well as social practice activities. They have won top honors for three consecutive sessions, including the Special Award of the national Challenge Cup and the Gold Award of the national Internet Plus College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The School's key scientific and technological innovation team, the "Feng Ru No. 3," has broken the world endurance record for 25–100 kg class gasoline-powered fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles twice.

• All-round Development of Students' Comprehensive Quality

During summer and winter vacations, students actively engage in social practice and research activities organized by Beihang University, and have been awarded titles such as the "National Top 100 Practice Teams" and the "Excellent Teams of Beijing Summer Social Practice." The School attaches great importance to students' mental health development, and has hosted university-level and institute-level Mental Health Month activities for consecutive years. It has also won the Group Second Prize and multiple Individual First Prizes at the Beijing Mental Health Festival.

Continuous Improvement in Further Education and Employment

The postgraduate enrollment rate of students has increased from the initial 20% to 40%, with a growing number admitted to “Double First-Class” universities. Employment data show that graduates of the Dual-Training Program show a strong preference for careers in aerospace-related enterprises and public institutions, and they demonstrate distinct competitive advantages in the job market.
