Abstract:
Professor Yang Chao's research focuses on the international visual expression of traditional Chinese cultural elements—such as ceramics—through processes of deconstruction and reconstruction. In this lecture, he will present his design philosophy through award-winning works and real-world projects, offering insight into his cross-boundary and innovative approach to design.
About the Speaker:
Professor Yang Chao is a doctoral supervisor at the School of New Media Art and Design, Beihang University. He is recognized as a national-level young talent and has been nominated for the Top Ten Outstanding Young Designers in China. He has led projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China and the China National Arts Fund. His works have received prestigious international awards, including the Red Dot: Best of the Best, the iF Design Award, and the China Advertising Great-Wall Award.
Professor Yang's expertise lies in the contemporary reinterpretation of Chinese heritage and its expression through international design languages. His selected projects include: the exclusive gift design for the 50th anniversary of China-Australia diplomatic relations, commissioned by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Embassy of China in Australia; the environmental ceramic art installation for the Beijing International Club Tower (a subsidiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs); the "National Gift Blue and White" series design for KUKA HOME (collected by the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee); the "Impression West Lake" brand identity design; the "Fuchun Bihe" limited edition interior design for Mercedes-Benz; as well as the brand identity, signage, and art design for Marriott's Autograph Collection in Bali and The Luxury Collection in Chongqing.
