About the Performer:
Alexey Chernov is a Russian pianist and composer. He was born in 1982 to a family of musicians. During his years as a student at the Moscow Conservatoire, he won several grants and awards. He has been a prize-winner at over twenty international competitions and claimed more than ten first prizes, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the Clevel and Piano Competition, the Maria Canals Piano Competition in Barcelona, the Pozzoli International Piano Competition in Seregno (Italy), the "Unisa" Piano Competition in Pretoria, and the International E-Piano Competition, among others.
Alexey Chernov has a tremendously diverse and varied repertoire. He performs recitals and collaborates with orchestras worldwide and has participated in numerous music festivals. He has appeared at the Stars of the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli International Piano Festival in Italy, and other prestigious events, collaborating with distinguished conductors.
As a composer, Alexey Chernov has created numerous pieces in various forms and genres, including piano pieces, chamber music, and orchestral compositions. He frequently includes his own piano music in his chamber concerts and recitals. He collaborates with various composer organizations and his works have been performed to great acclaim at festivals of contemporary music. His music is deeply influenced by the Russian classical heritage while incorporating elements of avant-garde techniques. He describes his musical style as "Metaromanticism."
In 2022, marking the 150th anniversary of Alexander Scriabin's birth, Alexey Chernov performed all of Scriabin's piano works in a concert series. He presented seven concerts at the Moscow Conservatory and the Scriabin Memorial Museum, performing the complete works of Scriabin. For the first time in music history, a single musician performed the entirety of Scriabin's works in one continuous day—a feat Alexey Chernov accomplished both in Moscow and in Le Mans, France.
