The year 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain. On July 13, the launch ceremony of the First Sino-Spain Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Symposium & Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) Day was held at the Xueyuan Road Campus of Beihang University.

Among the attendees were José E. Capilla Romá, Rector of the UPV, Wang Yunpeng, President of Beihang University, Jose F. Monserrat, Vice Rector of the UPV, and Zhao Weisheng, Vice President of Beihang University. The ceremony was presided over by Zhao Weisheng.

José E. Capilla Romá reviewed the history of cooperation between the UPV and Beihang University. He stated that as higher education institutions featuring both science and engineering disciplines, the two universities attach great importance to interdisciplinary studies and international development, and have established a solid foundation for cooperation over the years. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for the continuous deepening of the partnership with Beihang University to propel bilateral cooperation to a new stage.

In his speech, Wang Yunpeng presented an overview of Beihang University, highlighting its disciplinary strengths and international development strategy. He pointed out that the cooperation between Beihang University and the UPV aligns with the shared vision of China and Spain to strengthen collaboration in higher education. He hoped that this event would serve as an opportunity to pragmatically advance cooperation between the two universities and deepen exchanges and collaboration in science and technology, humanities, and education.

During the ceremony, Wang Yunpeng and José E. Capilla Romá signed an agreement on behalf of their respective universities aimed at further promoting cooperation between the two institutions. The leaders of both universities jointly witnessed the launch of UPV Day.

Prior to the ceremony, Wang Yunpeng met with José E. Capilla Romá and his delegation. Wang Yunpeng extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He emphasized that Beihang adheres to an open educational philosophy and is fully implementing the international strategy of UPS (University-Univerty, Professor-Professor, and Student-Student) 2030. Since the establishment of the Beihang China-Europe Cooperation Committee, significant progress has been made in promoting high-quality cooperation between China and Europe. He hoped that this visit would deepen cooperation between the two universities in academic exchanges, scientific and technological innovation, and talent cultivation. José E. Capilla Romá remarked that the friendship between the UPV and Beihang University has stood the test of time. Looking to the future, he anticipated further strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Beihang University to cultivate more young talents with a global perspective and interdisciplinary capabilities. The two sides exchanged views and reached a consensus on further enhancing cooperation in education, science and technology, and talent development.

At the Symposium, ten professors from both universities delivered insightful presentations on cutting-edge research directions in their respective disciplines, shared scientific research and educational achievements in relevant fields, and explored broad prospects for future cooperation.

On the afternoon of July 13, José E. Capilla Romá was invited to deliver a lecture at the Beihang Grand Lecture on the topic of "Global Engineering for a Sustainable Future: Youth, Technology, and Borderless Cooperation," providing an enlightening talk on global competence.

The UPV delegation also visited the Beijing Air and Space Museum, the National Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems, the Center for Micro-Nano Innovation of Beihang (Beihang Nano), the Aerodynamic Acoustic Wind Tunnel Laboratory, the Underwater Robot Laboratory, the 5G Smart Communication Integrated Science and Education Collaboration Innovation Center, and other laboratories and research facilities. They engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges with professors from disciplines such as communications, computer science, aeronautics and astronautics, and mechanical engineering through group sessions.

Beihang University and the UPV signed an inter-university agreement in 2007, establishing a partnership at the institutional level. For over a decade, the two universities have maintained continuous exchanges, with nearly a hundred students participating in exchange programs. In 2025, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain, the two universities continue to deepen the cooperation. In the future, both sides will further explore new models of international cooperation, leveraging joint research to cultivate high-level talent and advance cutting-edge research.
