Professor Du Bowen awarded Xplorer Prize 2025

Professor Du Bowen from the School of Transportation Science and Engineering at Beihang University has been honored with the 7th Xplorer Prize, one of China’s most prestigious awards for young scientists.

Du Bowen, a professor and doctoral advisor at Beihang University, serves as Dean of the School of Transportation Science and Engineering and is a national leading talent in his field. He has long been engaged in research at the cross-disciplinary integration of advanced AI theories with smart transportation and civil engineering. With support from over 20 major research projects, including key initiatives funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, he has guided graduate students from both the computer science and transportation disciplines. Professor Du has authored more than 150 publications, including papers in top-tier journals such as Engineering, TKDE, TITS, and TUST, as well as in renowned conferences like KDD, AAAI, and IJCAI.

His exceptional work has earned him numerous national and ministerial awards, such as the Second Prize of the National Technological Invention Award in 2016, the Second Prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2019, the Special Prize of the China Highway and Transportation Society in 2021, and the Second Prize of the Beijing Municipal Technological Progress Award in 2024.

The Xplorer Prize is a public welfare award funded by the New Cornerstone Science Foundation and led by scientists. The 2025 edition of the award covers ten fields, including Mathematics and Physics, Chemical and New Materials, Astronomy and Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Information and Electronics, Energy and Environment, Advanced Manufacturing, Transportation and Architecture, and Interdisciplinary Research.

This year, 50 awardees were selected, each receiving RMB 3 million in funding over five years to be used at their discretion.
