Beijing Symphony Orchestra lights up 6th Beihang Art Festival

On the evening of March 25, the opening performance of the 6th Beihang Art Festival — "Spring Scenery, Symphonic Melodies" presented by the Beijing Symphony Orchestra — was staged at the Sunrise Concert Hall on the Xueyuan Road Campus. More than 800 faculty members and students gathered for an elegant artistic rendezvous blending Eastern and Western music.

The concert opened with the classic piece The Beautiful Night of the Grassland, followed by Wanquan River and Drill Dance from the ballet The Red Detachment of Women, which revived revolutionary passion and strength. The first half concluded with Nostalgia, a deeply expressive orchestral piece evoking a profound sense of longing for the homeland.

The second half featured Brahms' Symphony No. 3 in F Op. 90, with its four movements unfolding in succession. The first movement Allegro con brio opened with an energetic motif; the second movement Andante transitioned into a deeply lyrical passage; the third movement Poco allegretto concealed surging energy within grace; and the finale Allegro culminated in a magnificent climax with overwhelming momentum. At the end of the performance, conductor Zhang Bingbing led the orchestra in an encore, receiving thunderous applause from the audience.

"This grand symphony performance was not only a feast of virtuosity but also a soul-stirring experience," said Ding Junzhe, a freshman from Shi'e College. "From the melodious violin and organ, to the dynamic percussion, all instruments echoed and blended perfectly. The music alternated between bright crispness and stirring passion, composing a vibrant melody of spring. Through the concert, I appreciated both the grandeur and subtlety of symphonic music, deeply felt the joy and freshness of spring through its magnificent melodies, and truly experienced the power of art."

This performance marked both a magnificent opening to this year's Art Festival and a vivid example of the university's commitment to nurturing campus culture through high-quality artistic experiences. Beihang University continuously integrates aesthetic education into the entire process of talent cultivation, enriches the campus culture, enhances the artistic appreciation of faculty members and students, and injects diverse vitality into the university's cultural development.

Hailed as the "Pearl of the Capital's Symphony Orchestras," the Beijing Symphony Orchestra has long been dedicated to the nationalization and popularization of symphonic music. In recent years, the orchestra has frequently performed at universities, using its exquisite musicianship and accessible introductions to help young audiences develop a lasting appreciation for the arts.
