Beihang University celebrates Youth Day with Thematic Group Lecture and 21st Beihang Youth May Fourth Medal Ceremony

On the occasion of Youth Day, Beihang University held the "Serving the Nation Through Aerospace: Youth Taking the Lead" Youth Thematic Group Lecture and the 21st Beihang Youth May Fourth Medal Award Ceremony at the Sunrise Concert Hall on the Xueyuan Road Campus.

The event was attended by Ni Yuting, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Deng Yi, Vice President of Beihang University, along with representatives from the Youth Development Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League.

The Thematic Group Lecture was held both online and offline, simultaneously broadcast across three campuses in Beijing and Hangzhou. More than 500 Beihang faculty and students gathered at the main venue, while sub-venues were set up for each school's Youth League branch to join the event virtually.

In her address, Vice President Deng Yi extended warm congratulations to the individuals and collectives receiving the Beihang Youth May Fourth Medal and holiday greetings to all young faculty and students. She encouraged Beihang's youth to strengthen their ideals and convictions, solidify their foundation through diligent study, and demonstrate the spirit of hard work through practical action. She urged them to contribute their youthful energy to the nation's great rejuvenation.

The event kicked off with a passionate dance performance titled "The Red in My Heart."

Fu Yangming, a pilot with Air China and a graduate of Beihang University's School of Aviation, spoke on "Embracing the Stage with Youth, Guarding the Mission with Dedication." He shared his journey from performing on campus stages to participating in the centennial celebration of the Communist Party of China, and ultimately pursuing his dream on the new stage of aviation.

Liu Qixi, a 2022 undergraduate student in the School of Chemistry, shared her journey of pursuing a childhood dream of military service, overcoming injuries and challenges to become an outstanding soldier recognized by China Central Television (CCTV), and called on Beihang youth to dedicate themselves to safeguarding their homeland.

Zhang Chenkai, a 2023 master's student in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, delivered a speech titled "Safeguarding the Nation with Technology: A Call to Youthful Action." Leveraging his expertise in cutting-edge technology, he led a team to develop a remote-sensing emergency disaster reduction model, dramatically improving rescue response speeds.

Yang Tuotuo, a 2022 undergraduate student from the School of New Media Art and Design, delivered a speech titled "The Long March of Every Generation," sharing her journey of preserving intangible cultural heritage together with her practice team. Over four years, she and her team have traveled to over 70 percent of China's provinces to research 73 key intangible cultural heritage items, using digital technology and design to build a bridge between heritage and the public.

Sun Xiaojing, a postdoctoral researcher at the International Institute for Interdisciplinary and Frontiers, shared her journey from being runner-up in the fourth season of the Chinese Poetry Competition to becoming champion in the tenth season. She highlighted the achievements and inspiring stories of China's space program, emphasizing the importance of generational dedication.

Sun Junjie, a 2022 Ph.D. student at the School of Astronautics and the National Superior College for Engineers, shared his story of striving to become an outstanding aerospace engineer. As one of the first students in a pilot engineering doctoral program, he has gained hands-on engineering experience, from high-speed vehicle research to complex wind tunnel experiments.

Hai Xingshuo, a young faculty member at the School of Reliability and Systems Engineering, has portrayed Luo Yang (a model of aviation dedication) in the musical Luo Yang for seven years. After returning from overseas studies, he rejoined Beihang to continue his research in reliability systems engineering, calling on youth to follow the examples of predecessors and dedicate themselves to national development.

The highlight of the event was the 21st Beihang Youth May Fourth Medal Award Ceremony, recognizing outstanding individuals and collectives.

Following the awards, a ceremony was held to inaugurate and present flags to the 2026 summer social practice teams. Vice President Deng Yi and other leaders handed flags to student representatives.

The event concluded with a stirring choral performance of "With Me," as young voices echoed their unwavering commitment to contributing to the nation through aerospace excellence and embracing the mission of the times.
