Beihang University and Xiaoyu Intelligent Manufacturing launch Joint Laboratory for Industrial Embodied AI

Beihang University and Beijing Xiaoyu Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xiaoyu Intelligent Manufacturing) have officially inaugurated the Joint Laboratory for Industrial Embodied AI, marking a significant step in advancing foundational technologies for intelligent manufacturing.

The laboratory will leverage the State Key Laboratory of Complex and Critical Software Environment at Beihang's School of Computer Science and Engineering to conduct cutting-edge research in precision world modeling and other core "root technologies" of industrial embodied AI. The collaboration aims to establish benchmark applications for industrial scenarios.

The launch ceremony was attended by over 60 representatives from government, industry, investment, and academia. Among attendees were Jiang Guangzhi, Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology; Xu Xinchao, Mayor of Haidian District; Lyu Weifeng, Vice President of Beihang University; Zheng Zhiming, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the State Key Laboratoryof Complex and Critical Software Environment; Zhao Fengjie, Director of the Intelligent Manufacturing Division, First Department of Equipment Industry, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; Li Hongjiang, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Engineering Association; and Qiao Zhongliang, Founder and CEO of Xiaoyu Intelligent Manufacturing and a 2008 alumnus of Beihang University.

In his opening address, Lyu Weifeng emphasized Beihang's strategic focus on AI disciplines and its ambition to accelerate breakthroughs in foundational AI technologies. He highlighted the university's strengths in precision intelligence, swarm intelligence, and trustworthy AI, expressing hope that the new joint laboratory would foster cutting-edge innovation, deepen industry-academia integration, and cultivate interdisciplinary talent in embodied intelligence.

Xu Xinchao noted that Haidian District, as the core of Beijing's national science and technology innovation hub, has developed a mature model for technology transfer. He reaffirmed the district's commitment to providing housing support and household registration benefits to attract young talent, pledging full support for the joint laboratory and its affiliated enterprises.

Zheng Zhiming pointed out that a key difficulty in artificial intelligence lies in achieving deep synergy between data space and physical space. He described embodied AI as both a global strategic focus and a critical force for reshaping the underlying logic of national industrial manufacturing and fostering new productive capacity.

Congratulatory remarks were also delivered by Li Hongjiang, He Zhangxiang (Vice President of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei New Energy Vehicle Collaborative Development Promotion Association), Feng Qingchuan (Dean of the Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute of China Construction Steel Structure Co., Ltd.), and Xu Hui (Founder ofStream HillAngels). The representatives unanimously agreed that industrial embodiedAItechnology is a critical pathway to addressing bottlenecks in China's current manufacturing sector. The establishment of the joint laboratory is a significant step in deepening the integration of industry, academia, research, and application.

During the unveiling ceremony, Jiang Guangzhi, Xu Xinchao, Zheng Zhiming, Qiao Zhongliang, and Liu Xianglong (Secretary of the Party Committee of Beihang's School of Computer Science and Director of the Joint Laboratory) jointly inaugurated the Joint Laboratory for Industrial Embodied AI. On behalf of Beihang University, Lyu Weifeng presented appointment letters to newly appointed experts. Zheng Zhiming was appointed Director of the Academic Committee, while Professors Lu Jiwen, Xu Ke, and Wu Wenjun were appointed Deputy Directors of the Academic Committee.

Liu Xianglong officially unveiled the laboratory's development vision and technology roadmap. Qiao Zhongliang delivered a keynote speech on embodied AI robotics. Associate Professor Jiang Xin from the State Key Laboratory of Complex and Critical Software Environment presented recent research progress on collaborative technologies for manufacturing execution.

Subsequently, Liu Xianglong moderated a roundtable dialogue featuring Lu Jiwen, Xu Ke, Qiao Zhongliang, Meng Yang, and Xu Hui, who discussed the technical bottlenecks, development pathways, and application prospects of general embodied intelligence from academic, industrial, and capital perspectives.

The joint laboratory will focus on foundational technologies in industrial embodied AI, including native spatial perception models, long-horizon planning, and high-fidelity simulation data generation. Leveraging Beihang's long-standing strengths in critical software, swarm intelligence, and intelligent security, the laboratory aims to build an evolvable industrial embodied intelligent system. The lab will drive technological transformation in application scenarios such as smart welding and flexible manufacturing, contributing to China's "AI+" action plan and the nation's goal of becoming a manufacturing powerhouse.
