Beihang Party Secretary Zhao Changlu engages with faculty and student representatives on high-quality development

On May 11, Beihang University hosted a symposium at its Shahe Campus, where Zhao Changlu, Secretary of the CPC Beihang University Committee, engaged in an in-depth discussion with 14 faculty and student representatives on advancing the university's high-quality development. The meeting centered on gathering insights and suggestions for the formulation and implementation of the university's 15th Five-Year Plan. Deputy Party Secretary Cheng Bo chaired the event, with Vice President Yan Xiaojun also in attendance.

The representatives expressed pride in Beihang's achievements during the 14th Five-Year Plan period and shared their excitement about the blueprint for the 15th Five-Year Plan. Drawing from their own experiences in teaching, research, and academic development, they offered a wide range of suggestions covering educational and teaching reform, curriculum system development, organized research, digital and AI empowerment of teaching and research, industry-education integration, faculty development, and campus management services.

Professor Qin Bingchao from the School of Materials Science and Engineering expressed hope that the university would continue to improve its long-term support mechanisms for original innovation. Professor Yang Jiping, also from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, said she would further strengthen curriculum-based political education by integrating it with the distinctive features of her discipline. Professor Tian Baolin from the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering called for continued support to strengthen organized research. Professor Wen Li from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation stated his intention to continue deepening scientific research in key areas and cutting-edge directions. Professor Tian Qiong from the School of Economics and Management suggested using new quality productive forces as an engine to drive publicity, ideological and cultural work. Professor Li Cuiping from the School of Mathematical Sciences offered opinions and suggestions on faculty skills training.

Associate Professor Hu Dawei from the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering shared frontline teaching insights. Associate Professor Song Lingjun from the School of Transportation Science and Engineering proposed AI-empowered strategies to enhance classroom quality. Professor Jiang Yue from the School of Astronautics called for continued emphasis on faculty ethics and professionalism. Professor Zhao Hewei from the School of Chemistry recommended targeted support for talent cultivation based on foundational disciplines. Undergraduate student Yin Siwen from the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering, master's student Ren Yifan from the School of Artificial Intelligence, doctoral student Gou Zhiqing from Shen Yuan Honors College, and doctoral student Lyu Zhengzhe from the Research Institute of Aero-Engine also contributed forward-looking ideas on experimental curricula, AI-integrated teaching reform, industry-education integration, and AI-empowered research.

"These comments are grounded in real experience, reflect actual conditions and offer insightful perspectives. They faithfully represent frontline teaching and research realities as well as the thoughts and needs of faculty and students, providing valuable references for scientific and targeted decision-making," Secretary Zhao said while listening attentively to the representatives.

Secretary Zhao noted that Beihang always places faculty and students at the center, integrating the principles of relying on, serving, and empowering its academic community into all aspects of institutional development. The university will maintain an open approach to educational governance, take faculty and student satisfaction as a key metric for evaluating its efforts, and carefully review and absorb all suggestions to continuously improve management services.

Regarding the 15th Five-Year Plan, Secretary Zhao emphasized that its formulation and implementation must align with the correct approach to performance evaluation, integrating high-level strategic positioning, long-term vision, and pragmatic execution. While adhering firmly to the socialist direction in education and fully implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue, the university must also coordinate tactical priorities including disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and research innovation.

Addressing the specific recommendations raised by the participants, Secretary Zhao highlighted several strategic priorities, including deepening education and teaching reform, strengthening competitive disciplines, prioritizing fundamental research, and enhancing the quality and efficiency of information technology infrastructure.

Secretary Zhao concluded by calling on the entire university community to unite around a spirit of devotion to the university and the pursuit of excellence, translating the outcomes of educational efforts into a powerful driving force for successfully launching the 15th Five-Year Plan. Through outstanding achievements, Beihang will elevate its world-class university development to new heights.
