President Wang Yunpeng visits Chengdu and Xiamen to strengthen university-enterprise cooperation

From May 12 to 15, President Wang Yunpeng led a delegation to Chengdu and Xiamen. The delegation paid visits to major research institutes, provided guidance for Beihang's research institute in Chengdu, deepened university-enterprise cooperation, and inspected Beihang's exhibition booths at the 2026 Xiamen International Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Industry Expo to boost the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. During the trip, the delegation also visited and extended greetings to Beihang students and alumni residing and working in Chengdu and Xiamen. Vice President Yan Xiaojun, and Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Gong Shengkai, Su Donglin and Jiao Zongxia, attended relevant events.

Visiting Major Research Institutes to Solidify University-Enterprise Cooperation

On May 14, the delegation led by Wang Yunpeng visited AECC Sichuan Gas Turbine Research Establishment (hereinafter referred to as AECC GTE) and AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Design & Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as AVIC Chengdu Institute). They toured scientific research and innovation exhibition halls, learned about the R&D progress and application of major scientific and technological achievements, and held in-depth talks with the two institutions on deepening bilateral cooperation.

On the morning of May 14, the delegation visited AECC GTE and held talks with Xiang Chuanguo, President of the institute. Fu Yu, Chief Model Designer of AECC Group, Chief Designer and Director of the Science and Technology Committee of the institute, and Pang Zhihan, Vice President of the institute, attended the meeting.

Xiang Chuanguo extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed gratitude for Beihang's long-term support. He stated that Beihang University has made outstanding contributions to the development of the aero-engine industry over the years, and hoped both sides would continuously strengthen exchanges and cooperation, translate the university's disciplinary and research strengths into engineering application advantages, foster core independent innovation capacity in technological R&D, and usher in a new chapter of university-institute cooperation.

Wang Yunpeng thanked the institute for its consistent support for the development of Beihang University. He pointed out that both sides have laid a solid foundation and yielded fruitful cooperation outcomes. Looking ahead, the university will clarify its strategic orientation, closely align with practical industrial demands, systematically advance organized talent cultivation,scientific research, faculty training, and student employment, facilitate the effective integration of innovation, industrial, capital and talent chains, and work together with AECC GTE to build an aviation powerhouse.

On the afternoon of May 14, talks were held at AVIC Chengdu Institute between Wang Yunpeng and Jiang Bing, Director of the institute. Also present were Wang Haifeng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yuan Zejian, Chief Designer and Deputy Director, and Hong Rui, Deputy Director.

Jiang Bing welcomed the Beihang delegation and thanked the university for its sustained support. He noted that the two sides maintain solid cooperative ties, profound friendship and abundant cooperation results, with close links in model development, technological breakthroughs, academic exchanges and talent training. He expressed hope that both parties will give full play to their respective strengths, focus on national strategic needs, and improve the mechanism for transforming scientific and technological achievements, accelerateing high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement.

Wang Yunpeng expressed sincere gratitude to AVIC Chengdu Institute for its longstanding support and emphasized the high strategic alignment and solid cooperation foundation between the two sides. Guided by major scientific research tasks and practical industrial demands, Beihang will deepen applied basic research, make forward-looking layouts in emerging fields and new-quality domains, jointly build and share high-level scientific research and innovation platforms, and realize two-way empowerment between technological innovation and industrial innovation, consolidating talent foundation and pooling technological strengths for building a strong aviation power.

During the visit, Wang Yunpeng specially met with Beihang alumni working at the two institutes, expressing care for their work and congratulating them on their remarkable achievements. He encouraged them to keep forging ahead to make greater contributions to China's aviation industry.

He also met with Zhong Yue and Xie Kunwu, 2024 master's students of Beihang University participating in the outstanding engineer joint training program at AECC GTE. He inquired about their progress and future plans, congratulated them on their academic achievements, and encouraged them to solve real problems in real environments, assuring that the university would continue to provide comprehensive support and services to facilitate their growth.

On May 15, Wang Yunpeng and the delegation went to Pengzhou City for work exchanges with Gao Zhi, Deputy Secretary of the Pengzhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Pengzhou City. They visited Beihang Chengdu Aviation Power Innovation Research Institute, listened to reports on its operation and research achievements, learned about its construction progress, achievement transformation and talent training work, and offered guidance for its further development. Wang Yunpeng thanked the Pengzhou municipal government for its strong support to the institute. He noted that Beihang would leverage its strengths, coordinate resources, and further empower local economic and social development through shared research platforms, achievement transformation, and integrated talent cultivation. Regarding future development of the institute, he emphasized that it should fully leverage local policy and resource advantages, align its development with industrial and local social and economic needs, accelerate the industrialization of more research outcomes, and achieve high-quality development.

During his stay, Wang Yunpeng also attended the ceremony celebrating the 130th anniversary of the founding of Southwest Jiaotong University.

Engaging with Alumni in Xiamen and Chengdu

During the trip, Wang Yunpeng met with Beihang alumni in both Xiamen and Chengdu, holding separate symposiums.

At the Xiamen alumni symposium, Li Bin, President of the Xiamen Alumni Association and a graduate of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, provided an overview of the association's work. Alumni including Wang Henglin, Chen Jinyong, Li Weiqing, Wang Ximing, and Lian Zhiyang shared fond memories of their time at Beihang and offered suggestions on enrollment promotion and university-local collaboration.

At the Chengdu alumni symposium, Li Tong, President of the Chengdu Alumni Association and a graduate of the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering, reported on local alumni activities. Alumni including Mao Gang, Li Qiushi, Liu Bing, Li Peng, He Kaifeng, Huang Lei, and Liu Shuya expressed gratitude for Beihang's continued care and discussed talent cultivation and university-industry cooperation.

Wang Yunpeng listened attentively to the alumni representatives, expressing gratitude for their steadfast support and respect for their professional achievements. He briefed them on Beihang's recent developments, noting significant progress in disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, technological innovation, and faculty development. "Beihang will always be your home," he said, calling on alumni to continue contributing ideas and support as the university strives to build a world-class institution with Chinese characteristics.

Promoting Technology Transfer at Intelligent Transportation Expo

On May 13, Wang Yunpeng attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 China International ITS Industry Expo in Xiamen. Beihang-affiliated schools, research institutes, laboratories, and technology transfer enterprises showcased their latest innovations.

The delegation toured several exhibits, including Tage Idriver's mine unmanned transport system, Yisen Power's multi-vehicle coordination system for urban delivery, Tianmushan Laboratory's "Tianmushan-1 2.0" and ultralight low-altitude personal aircraft, Tianyu Aviation Data's 5G AeroMACS technology, and Hefei Innovation Institute's autonomous street sweepers and embodied logistics robots.

Wang Yunpeng called for intensified technology breakthroughs, accelerated application and commercialization, clear pathways for development, and deep integration of industry, academia and research to bridge the gap between innovation and industrial application. He affirmed Beihang's commitment to building platforms and improving mechanisms to support the transformation of more research outcomes into practical applications.

Leaders from the University Administrative Office, the Institute of Science and Technology, the Office of Alumni Relations and relevant schools and departments participated in various events during the trip.
