Beihang badminton team secures 3 golds at 28th National University Badminton Championship

From August 21 to 29, the finals of the 28th National University Badminton Championship were held in Tongchuan, Shaanxi. Under the guidance of coaches Fu Qingrong, Shi Lei, and Fan Qiuyue from the Department of Sports, the Beihang badminton team claimed 3 golds, 1 silver, and 3 bronzes across 7 events. The women's team claimed the team championship, while the men's team secured fourth place. In individual events, Beihang took gold and bronze in women's singles, gold and silver in women's doubles, bronze in men's doubles, and bronze in mixed doubles.

In the team competition, the Beihang women's squad showed great competitiveness and outstanding team resilience. From the group stage onward, they defeated Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xidian University by 2-0 in both matches. In the knockout rounds, they swept Wuhan University 2-0. Facing their longtime rivals Shanghai Jiao Tong University in the semifinals, they delivered a steady performance to advance to the final with a 2-0 win. In the title decider, they defeated Peking University 2-0, claiming the national women's team championship without dropping a single set throughout the tournament. The Beihang men's team also turned in a solid showing, defeating South China University of Technology and Jilin University 2-0 in the group stage. They then beat Chengdu Sport University in the knockout rounds to reach the semifinals, where they fought hard in a three-game thriller against South China University of Technology before narrowly falling 1-2, ultimately finishing in fourth place.

In the individual events, freshman Wang Yaqi showed great courage and skill to claim the women's singles title, while Li Lewei took the bronze. In women's doubles, two Beihang pairs showcased their unique strengths and fought with determination to secure both gold and silver for the university—Li Lewei and Hu Yitian took the gold, while Wang Zichong and Lu Silu claimed silver. In men's doubles, Zhang Bohan and Yuan Conghao earned a hard-fought bronze with their powerful offense and solid defense. In the mixed-doubles, Yuan Conghao and Chen Yifei emerged as dark horses to claim the bronze.

As the top-tier university badminton event in China, the National University Badminton Championship features preliminary rounds in the southern and northern regions, with the finals bringing together over 300 athletes from 32 universities nationwide to compete for glory on the court.
