Abstract:

In an era of deepening globalization, international organizations serve as pivotal forces in global governance, leading humanity in transcending borders to tackle pressing challenges such as climate change, public health crises, and digital security. Whether you specialize in STEM or the humanities, if you aspire to make a global impact, this is your opportunity to step onto the international stage as a future "global civil servant" and contribute to building a shared future for mankind.

As part of the Beihang Grand Lecture and Global Competence Lecture, this session welcomes Fabrizio Hochschild-Drummond, former UN Under-Secretary-General, to Beihang University. Drawing on his vast experience in international affairs and unique perspectives, he will guide us on the path to making an impact on the global stage.

Biography

Fabrizio Hochschild-Drummond is a graduate of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Fluent in English, Spanish, German, and French, he served as the former Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Currently, he holds several prestigious positions, including Researcher at the Geneva Center for Security Policy, Senior Researcher at the Kent Conflict Mediation Project in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, Chief Global Governance and Youth Leadership Advisor at the Global Youth Leadership Development Council (GYLDC), and Senior Advisor to the International Competence Development Committee of the Chinese Society of Educational Development Strategy.

With 35 years of dedicated service at the UN, Mr. Hochschild has extensive theoretical and practical experience in peacekeeping and humanitarian affairs. He has held key roles such as Head of Field Offices for UNHCR and Humanitarian Coordinator in regions such as Sudan, Sarajevo, and Tanzania, where he actively contributed to local peacebuilding and sustainable development. Through his decades of hands-on work and academic research in peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts, Mr. Hochschild has amassed profound expertise in multilateral diplomacy and international cooperation.
