Beihang inaugurates Art Museum at Shahe Campus: A new landmark for art-tech integration

On October 24, in celebration of Beihang University's 73rd anniversary, the inauguration ceremony of Beihang Art Museum at the Shahe Campus was held, which also featured the opening of its inaugural thematic exhibitions.

The ceremony was attended by Zhao Changlu, Secretary of the CPC Beihang University Committee, other university leaders, donating artists for the special art collection, participating artists of the thematic exhibitions, heads of administrative and service departments, heads of colleges based at the Shahe Campus, and teacher and student representatives. The event was presided over by Liu Shuchun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beihang University Committee.

Zhao Changlu extended a warm welcome to all guests on behalf of the university and expressed high respect to all artists and friends from all walks of life who generously donated works and supported the cultural development of Beihang. He stated that the university takes moral education as the background of cultural development, scientific spirit as the essence, and the unity of knowledge and practice as the key. It aims to promote academic freedom and ideological collision, continuously enrich cultural and educational resources and facilities, and strive to build a campus culture with elegant taste, profound heritage and first-class caliber. He pointed out that high-level artistic supply should be provided to cultivate the elegant and dignified temperament of faculty and students. The Art Museum at the Shahe Campus should serve as an important platform for aesthetic education, create cultural education scenarios, innovate cultural education paradigms, and promote the integration, intercommunication and mutual promotion of scientific spirit and humanistic spirit.

Artist representative Jin Jun, professor from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, extended warm congratulations on the official opening of the Beihang Art Museum at Shahe Campus. He expressed that nowadays, breaking down disciplinary barriers and promoting the integration of ideas has become a core issue for university development. True innovation is often born at the intersection where science seeks "truth" and art searches for "beauty." He looked forward that Beihang Art Museum will play a significant role in the university's high-level talent cultivation and major innovation projects, leading advanced culture, and undertaking the responsibility and mission of empowering future technological development.

Student representative Zhu Yuhang, a postgraduate student from the School of Mathematics and Sciences, shared that the six years in the choir has given her a deeper understanding of the rich cultural soil in Beihang. Excellent Beihang students, she said, should possess both the rational brilliance to explore the unknown and the humanistic sentiment to perceive the warmth of life. The opening of the Art Museum makes the rigor of science and the romance of art converge. In the future, she will continue to carry forward the Beihang spirit, and transform the artistic nourishment gained here into the youthful power to pursue dreams on a broader stage.

During the ceremony, Zhao Changlu, Li Ying, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the China National Archives of Publications and Culture, Shen Xukun, Dean of the School of New Media Art and Design at Beihang, Zhang Jiangzhou, Former Vice President of the China National Academy of Painting, and Wang Lei, Dean of the School of Animation and Digital Arts at the Communication University of China, jointly pressed the start button, which marked the official opening of the Beihang Art Museum at the Shahe Campus and two themed exhibitions: Painting a Grand Era, Inking a New Chapter: Special Exhibition of Masterworks and "Luminous Cosmos" Digital Art Exhibition.

During the preparation of Beihang Art Museum at the Shahe Campus, Beihang received strong support from partner universities and top artists from various fields across the nation. A total of 52 artists generously donated 57 precious works, forming the first batch of high-quality collections for the museum. Additionally, 18 digital artists contributed representative works to the"Luminous Cosmos" Digital Art Exhibition. Beihang has also invited a group of mid-career and young artists to serve as Artists-in-Residence, aiming to fully leverage the museum's role in venue-based education and cultural inheritance.

After the opening ceremony, the attending leaders and guests visited the museum, speaking highly of two thematic exhibitions.

As the inaugural collection of Beihang Art Museum at the Shahe Campus, Painting a Grand Era, Inking a New Chapter: Special Exhibition of Masterworks brings together masterpieces from over fifty top national artists. It not only showcases the outstanding achievements of contemporary Chinese painting art but also pays tribute to our great era through the form of art."Luminous Cosmos" Digital Art Exhibition focuses on the cutting-edge fields of digital art, gathering representative works from nearly twenty leading digital artists nationwide. Through various digital media such as dynamic images, interactive installations, and data visualization, it explores the new realm of art-technology integration, vividly interpreting the concept of "symbiosis of art and technology."

As the first non-profit university-level art museum among Chinese universities, Beihang Art Museum, established on May 15, 2006, has journeyed through nineteen years. It has consistently adhered to the philosophy of "for the public, through expertise, beyond excellence," becoming a vital platform for the university's cultural dissemination and aesthetic education practice.

The Art Museum at the Shahe Campus is located in the central area of the basement level of the library, with a total area of 2,500 square meters. Guided by the philosophy of "deep integration of art and technology," it focuses on promoting art to empower education, scientific research, and campus culture, standing as an important space within the campus cultural landscape that blends humanistic atmosphere with academic distinctiveness. The core function of the Art Museum will revolve around high-level art exhibitions, making it a new campus cultural landmark that nourishes the minds and stimulates innovative thinking.
