Research on Connected Vehicle Systems at UBC
Release time:November 21, 2018

Topic:Research on Connected Vehicle Systems at UBC

Speaker:Professor Victor C. M. Leung, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of British Columbia

Time:9:30 AM, November 23

Venue:Meeting room on the 4th Floor of Guoshi Building 1, Shahe Campus

Abstract:Connected vehicle systems take advantage of wireless communications to enable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and in general vehicle-to-anything (V2X) connectivity, resulting in a rich set of applications that promise to improve traffic safety, increase the efficiency of traffic flow, reduce congestion, and keep drivers and passengers informed and entertained. The WiNMoS Lab at UBC has been engaged in connected vehicle systems research for the past then years. This presentation will give an overview of connected vehicle systems and their specific characteristics that drive our research efforts. Specific research outcomes including intersection-aware ad hoc V2V routing, software platform for crowd-sourced vehicular social networks, and coordination of distributed software for edge-computing based V2X networks will be reviewed. The recently AURORA connected vehicle testbed that has recently been deployed around the UBC campus will be described. This presentation will also introduce the audience to the University of British Columbia, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, and the WiNMoS Laboratory.
