Topic: Marriage between Holography and Statistical Optics for Unconventional Imaging: Coherence Holography and Holographic Correloscopy (A Tutorial)

Abstract:

Traditionally, holography and statistical optics have been regarded as mutually separated fields of optics. For a long time, this seems to have restricted synergy of knowledge in holography and coherence theory. This tutorial will introduce some of our recent efforts to bridge the gap between holography and statistical optics. Focus will be placed on unconventional imaging techniques, coherence holography and holographic correloscopy, born from the marriage between holography and statistical optics. These examples will illustrate that the reasoning of analogy plays a key role as a matchmaker.

Biography of the Speaker:

Mitsuo Takeda is Research Professor of Center for Optical Research and Education (CORE) at Utsunomiya University, Tochigi Japan, and Professor Emeritus of the University of Electro-Communications (UEC), Tokyo Japan. He received the BE degree in Electrical Engineering from UEC in 1969, and the ME and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Physics from the University of Tokyo, respectively, in 1971 and 1974. After working for Canon Inc., he joined the faculty of UEC in 1977. In1985 he was a visiting scholar of Prof. Joseph W. Goodman’s Group at Stanford University, and an Alexander von Humboldt Guest Professor of Institut für Technische Optik, Universität Stuttgart, Germany, for the years 2013-2014.

His technical activities and interest include:

・ Optical metrology, especially basic principles and industrial applications of optical interferometry and profilometry; Fringe analysis and image processing.

・ Holography and its application to optical metrology and optical information processing.

・ Statistical optics and its application to unconventional imaging and optical metrology.

His service to technical community includes:
