About the Speaker:

Zhili Sun is the Chair Professor of the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), University of Surrey. He received his BSc degree in Mathematics, Nanjing University and MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Lancaster University. He once worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Queen Mary University, conducting researches on broadband network communication. He has joined University of Surrey since 1993 and engaged in studies of satellite communications and networking and future internet technologies.

Prof. Sun, as the project leader, has participated in fifteen EU Framework Programs, two research projects funded by the government, and one scientific research project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), with total funding of three million pounds. The EU 6th Framework Program EC-GIN project on EU-China Grid Internetworking is among the above projects.

Prof. Sun has supervised 30 PhDs and over 50 postgraduates. At the same time, he also leads the UK-China Science Bridges, an international collaborative program, and is invited as a distinguished expert to evaluate international scientific researches and EU Framework Program projects.

In addition, Prof. Sun is the author or co-author of three books, including two monographs: Satellite Networking: Principles and Protocols, 2nd Edition in 2014 and Satellite Communications Systems and Technologies, 6th Edition,  published by Wiley & Son worldwide, and a book titled Future Satellite IP networks, published by Springer in 2008. He has also published over 240 papers in international academic journals and international conferences in which he has served as a technical committee member or section chair. Prof. Sun has been invited to give lectures at many world-class universities and hired as a visiting professor.
