Abstract:

The report will present examples of composite material research projects in the biomedical field, which were carried out by the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials at the University of Auckland, as well as the achievements and challenges in basic research and application projects. The report will cover (1) composite material manufacturing technologies and process development, including liquid composite molding, rotational molding, roll forming, and machining; (2) the development of micro/nanofiber composite materials and their new applications in manufacturing, packaging, and biomedical applications; (3) polymers and polymer composites for biomedical applications.

About the Speaker:

Prof. Debes Bhattacharyya is a Fellow of the Royal Society, NZ, a Distinguished Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers NZ (currently ENGNZ), and the founder of the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials at the University of Auckland. His research interest includes the mechanics and manufacturing of composite materials with more recent emphasis being on the development of fire retardant additives and fire dynamics simulation. He was awarded the Supreme Technical (John Cranko) Award by ENGNZ and the DuPont Research Award, and was founded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation, DFG). He has delivered over 70 keynote/plenary/invited lectures at international conferences and has more than 500 scientific/technical publications including several edited/authored books and a number of book chapters.
