Abstract:
Machine Design is a premium course at Politecnico di Torino, derived from the German engineering education system. It is designed for senior undergraduate or graduate students and taught in English. This lecture series includes both theoretical instruction and practical training sessions. Participants need bring laptops pre-installed with Excel and MATLAB for hands-on exercises.
Schedule:
July 2: Hertz contacts in the context of rolling bearings
July 3: Case study: contacts in the Duplex ball bearings
July 4: Special problems of the Duplex bearing: fitting and thermal expansions
July 5: The high-strength bolted connection: clamping and fatigue strength
July 6: Case study: fatigue problems in diesel engine and the VDI2230-2015
About the Speaker:
Muzio Gola, Emeritus Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMEAS), Politecnico di Torino, and former Vice Rector of the university. His main research interests lie in the structural dynamics of gas turbines, including vibration analysis and suppression of turbine blades, design theory and experiments of platform dampers, contact mechanics of high-temperature friction and wear, and thermal shock and fatigue of aero-engine blisks. He has published over 200 papers and secured research funding exceeding 4 million euros.
