This lecture systematically explores the future directions of public administration research, covering the following key dimensions:
Theoretical Development: Integrating organizational theory and institutionalism with political science;
Key Themes: Analyzing major topics in public administration research, including pressing issues such as emergency management and digital governance;
Empirical Challenges: Focusing on empirical challenges central to core public administration research;
Normative Challenges: Discussing the normative challenges confronting public administration research.
About the Speaker:
Professor Tom Christensen is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo, Norway, and a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
As one of the most prolific scholars in international public administration, he has published over a hundred papers in top-tier international journals and more than ten books and textbooks. His research has profoundly influenced contemporary public organization theory, administrative reforms, and emergency management. He is a senior member of numerous international public administration associations and societies.
His work has received the Pierre De Celles Award granted by the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA), known as the "Nobel Prize" in international public administration.
