Instructed by Ms. Nie Zichao, Wang Qirui, Li Xinru, Yu Miao and Li Yanan, four undergraduate students from the School of New Media Art and Design, won the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2020 and were also honored with the title of BEST OF THE YEAR with their design “Quieter”, scooping a prize money of EUR 3,000.

With its competition categories corresponding to the sustainable development goals (SDG) of the United Nations, the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2020 aims to address the most pressing challenges faced by society. The submissions are required to embody the outstanding idiosyncrasy in innovation, delicacy, function, aesthetics and responsibility.

As a winner of SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, the design “Quieter” seeks to explore the value of design in solving the sustainability of urban traffic and improving human well-being. It aims to provide a safe, affordable and sustainable transport system for all people, especially the vulnerable groups such as women, children, elderly and disabled people.

The design stood out among over 10,000 enties from all over the world, and became one of the only seven BEST OF THE YEAR entries. The jury praised: “This very interesting app proposal focuses on ensuring that people can remain mobile and active in life despite a disability.”

Since 1953, the iF DESIGN AWARD has been known as an internationally recognized label for excellent design, and it is annually conferred by the iF International Forum Design. The iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD, one of the most important design prizes for students from all over the world, provides a trustworthy stage for young designers to show their competence at the beginning of their careers.

This is the third consecutive year that the undergraduates from the School of New Media Art and Design have won the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD and the second consecutive year that they have nabbed the BEST OF THE YEAR.
