1. Beihang held a series of events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC)

In 2021, a series of celebration activities were held for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. More than 800 students and faculty members participated in the performances in grand gathering and volunteer service in Beijing’s Tian’anmen Square, as well as the art performance The Great Journey held at the National Stadium. On June 23, the Commendation Conference was held to honor the “Outstanding Communist Party Members of Beihang University”, “Exemplary Party Workers of Beihang University” and “Advanced Community-level Party Organizations of Beihang University”. 656 commemorative medals were awarded to those who have been Party members for 50 years or more. Besides, Party-themed publicity and education activities as well as performances were carried out at Beihang with more than 20,000 participants.

2. Learning and education of Party history and the spirit of the sixth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China

A mobilization meeting on Party history learning and education was held at Beihang on March 19. Over the past year, Beihang has taken Party history learning and education as a major political task and has held a series of campaigns in various forms to help students and teachers to have a better and deeper understanding of Party history. From November 8 to 11, the sixth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing. Beihang held various learning activities like theoretical study group, training, as well as different kinds of study meetings for students and teachers to study the spirit of the session.

3. Beihang released the 14th Five-Year Plan and made a sound plan for high-quality development

Beihang’s 2021 working meeting was convened on September 1 to make systematic plans on the kick-off of the 14th Five-Year Plan and to promote the construction of high-quality talent cultivation system in the new era. Conferences on discipline construction and science development were also held to promote the construction of a system of first-class disciplines and majors with high quality. 25 new national first-class undergraduate major construction points and 4 new majors were established.

4. Three professors and nine alumni of Beihang were newly named as CAS and CAE members

On November 18, Professor Qian Depei at the School of Computer Science and Engineering was honored as a new member of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). Professor Wang Yunpeng at the School of Transportation Science and Engineering and Professor Wang Zili at the School of Reliability and Systems Engineering were honored as new members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). The nine newly elected Beihang alumni are four CAS academicians including Li Zhi, Fan Ruixiang, Ding Chibiao and Yu Dengyun, and five CAE academicians including Xing Liying, Wu Jianqi, Zhu Kun, Wang Xiangming and Yang Hong.

5. Five research achievements won China’s State Science and Technology Awards

The National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on November 3. Of Beihang’s five awards, two 2nd prizes in the State Technological Invention Award were won by projects led by Cao Xianbin and Han Bangcheng, and three 2nd prizes in the State Science and Technology Progress Award went to projects led by Qian Depei, Zhang Hong, and Tao Fei, respectively. Beihang has always been committed to boosting China’s social progress by exploring cutting-edge technology, and has made major breakthroughs in key and core technologies. Since entering the new century, Beihang has won 15 first prizes in the National Science and Technology Awards.

6. School of Future Aerospace Technology was inaugurated at Beihang

The School of Future Aerospace Technology was officially established at Beihang on July 13. Focusing on the nation’s major needs in aerospace and future development, the school will cultivate masters and top-notch innovative talents in the field of advanced aerocraft technology, basic science and cutting-edge technologies while exploring “Beihang Paradigm” in cultivating top-notch innovative talents.

7. Beihang students achieved outstanding results in various competitions

In 2021, more than 6,200 students from 1,378 teams of Beihang University carried out the social fieldwork on the theme of “Eternal Flame, Gleaming Youth” (Bai Nian Xin Huo, Qing Chun Fang Hua). Beihang University took a leading role in establishing a volunteer service team for technology and science of capital universities and won the “Best University on Fieldwork” in 2021 and the outstanding organization of the fieldwork to “bring culture, science and technology, and hygienic health to the countryside”.

In the national finals of the 7th China International College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and other competitions, Beihang University has made excellent achievements.

On October 1, the National Day, the exciting news came that the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI) officially certified a new world record for the endurance of a 25-100kg class oil-powered fixed-wing UAV set by the “Feng Ru 3” team from Beihang University.

At 18:51 on October 14, 2021, China sent its first solar exploration satellite, the APSCO Student Small Satellite (APSCO-SSS-1), into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China’s Shanxi Province. The satellite was launched aboard a Long March-2D rocket and entered its planned orbit successfully, promoting the exchange and cooperation of APSCO member states in the field of space technology and application.

8. Debut of new canteen in the western area and halls of residence of Shahe campus

In 2021, the canteen in the western area of the Shahe campus was officially operational and the integrated living area for students was also newly opened. The canteen introduces the “delicacies at Beihang” as a vehicle to spread the food culture in universities and actively promotes the concept of practicing thrift through building a cost-effective campus. The halls of residence ameliorate the simple living model by fully integrating with activities of all kinds including study, innovation, entrepreneurship, public services, exercising, catering, shared office, reading, etc., aiming at building an energetic, attractive, and comprehensive living environment.

9. Beihang team was crowned champion in CUFA Finals

On January 3, the finals of the Men’s Division of the 2019-2020 China University Football Association (CUFA) successfully concluded as the team of Beihang University defeated the team from Beijing Institute of Technology 1-0 and finally crowned champion. Xu Kun, coach of the Beihang team, and the player Guo Fengyuan also won the titles of the Best Coach and the Best Player, respectively. Besides, the 2021 Sunshine Sports Volleyball Challenge of Colleges in Beijing (Group A) was held from December 4 to 19, in which the female volleyball team from Beihang University won the championship. On December 19, the 2021 Fencing Individual Race of College Students in Beijing was held, with the fencing team of Beihang winning two championships.

10. The announcement of the 70th anniversary celebration of Beihang University (No. 1)

On October 25, Beihang University issued the announcement of the 70th anniversary celebration (No. 1). After 70 years of serving the country in the fields of aeronautics and astronautics, Beihang University will take the opportunity of the 70th anniversary celebration to summarize the outstanding achievements and present the modern splendor in a bid for spreading Beihang Spirit and moving forward into a brighter future. Alumni at home and abroad and those who care about and support the construction of Beihang University will be cordially invited to meet on campus during the anniversary celebration to discuss plans for further development.

The warmest news: Welcome! Xing Yifan, the first registered freshman of 2021

On September 2, as the first registered freshman of 2021, Xing Yifan checked in the campus dormitory with his parents. The 18-year-old boy weighs only 18 kilograms and was diagnosed with LAMA2-related congenital muscular dystrophy (a form of ALS) when he was 6 months old. After the college entrance examination, he was admitted to the Engineering pilot class (Information category) of Beihang University with a high score of 645. The university has conducted several discussions and set a package of plans to guarantee Xing’s study, life, and safety during his school years. His strong spirit and optimistic attitude have been reported by People’s Daily, Xinhua News, CCTV program “Face to Face”,  “News 1+1” and many other mainstream media, with a total of 35,121 articles, 4.64 million likes, and more than 1.4 billion views.
