Beihang Holds Concert to Ring in New Year

On the evening of December 26, Beihang University held its 2024 New Year Concert at the Sunrise Concert Hall on the Xueyuan Road Campus. The China Philharmonic Orchestra of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) was invited to present a performance, bringing a unique, brilliant audio-visual feast to teachers and students.

Before the concert, Zhao Changlu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Beihang University, met with Li Nan, Director of China Philharmonic Orchestra. He said that the China Philharmonic Orchestra, as a national symphony orchestra belonging to SARFT and once rated as the “Top Ten Most Influential Orchestras in the World”, enjoys a significant position in the history of Chinese contemporary music. This concert is the best New Year gift brought by China Philharmonic Orchestra to Beihang teachers and students. He looked forward to more excellent works and performances by the China Philharmonic Orchestra in the future.

The orchestra performed Chinese classics such as “Ode to the Red Flag”, “Yao Dance”, “The Red Detachment of Women”, “Spring Festival Overture”, “Haixia Suite”, and foreign classics such as “Cavalleria Rusticana” intermezzo, “Tango Jalousie”, “Vltava River” and “Second Waltz”, highlighting the charm of multicultural integration.

Amid thunderous applause and loud shouts, the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the Beihang Student Symphony Orchestra performed the encore pieces “Years of Burning Passion”, “My Motherland” and “Radetzky March”.

The concert was conducted by the famous Chinese conductor Xia Xiaotang. With his rigorous, accurate and passionate conducting style, he introduced and explained the repertoire with wit and depth, allowing the teachers and students to fully enjoy the charm of contemporary music.

In recent years, Beihang University has steadily promoted the aesthetic education and held a series of activities of “Elegant Art into Campus” for many times. The university will further promote the all-round development of students, carry forward the spirit of patriotism, and cultivate students to bravely shoulder the historical mission and take up the great responsibility of national rejuvenation.
