Beihang's Engineering Discipline Enters Top 0.01% in Global ESI Ranking

According to the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Global Disciplines Ranking released on March 15, the Engineering discipline of Beihang University has entered the ESI global top 0.01%, and the discipline of Biology and Biochemistry has been included in the ESI Global Disciplines Ranking. Early in January, 2024, the discipline of Chemistry has entered the ESI global top 0.1%.This signifies that Beihang’s Engineering has been in the top position among world-class disciplines, and other basic disciplines including Chemistry have stepped into the ranks of world-class disciplines. The university has achieved new breakthroughs in accelerating the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.

Up to now, a total of 11 disciplines of Beihang have entered ESI Global Disciplines Ranking, among which, Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, and Chemistry are in the top 0.1%, and Engineering the top 0.01%. Over the past five years, a number of papers have been published in internationally renowned journals such as Nature and Science, and Beihang’s ESI papers have seen a considerable growth in both the total number and average citation times, promoting the overall enhancement of Beihang’s education quality.

Dividing all disciplines into 22 specialized fields, ESI measures the performance of scientific research and tracks the development trend of disciplines from the perspective of citation analysis, and is one of the most important evaluation indicators commonly used in the world to evaluate the international academic level and influence of colleges and universities, academic institutions, countries and regions. Generally speaking, the top 1% disciplines of ESI are regarded as international high-quality subjects, the top 0.1% ones indicate a forefront position among world-class disciplines, and the top 0.01% ones indicate a top position among world-class disciplines.
