On the morning of October 26, the 2024 Alumni Homecoming Conference was held at the Sunrise Concert Hall on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of Beihang University, with nearly 2,000 alumni returning to their alma mater. The event was attended by Beihang Secretary of the Party Committee Zhao Changlu, President Wang Yunpeng, Vice President Liu Shuchun, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspectionn Liu Hongcang, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee Cheng Bo and Vice Presidents Lyu Weifeng, Zhao Weisheng, and Deng Yi.
The conference began with the solemn national anthem.
President Wang Yunpeng welcomed the returning alumni and extended best wishes to all Beihang alumni worldwide. He expressed gratitude to those who have supported the university's growth and praised alumni achievements across various fields. Wang highlighted Beihang's progress, noting improvements in talent cultivation, academic contributions, faculty strength, international partnerships, and campus environment, attributing these successes to the spirit of “Serve the Country through Aerospace Endeavors.”
“Beihang's achievements over seventy-two years reflect the dedication and hard work of every student and faculty member, as well as the support of our alumni,” Wang Yunpeng emphasized. He noted that President Xi Jinping has set the strategic goal of building China into an educational powerhouse by 2035, a mission in which Beihang, as part of the country's leading universities, holds an important responsibility. Looking to the future, the university hopes to advance together with alumni worldwide on this new journey. Beihang will strengthen alumni connections, foster a supportive alumni culture across regions and industries, and encourage alumni to channel their pride in alma mater into driving the university's progress. The university will also strive to integrate high-quality resources, enabling reciprocal empowerment between the university and its alumni. Embracing the university spirit, Beihang and its alumni will boldly contribute to building Beihang into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
Wang Ruopeng, a 1980 graduate in Mechanical Engineering and former Director of the 11th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, spoke on behalf of alumni who have been graduated for 40 years. He expressed pride in Beihang's achievements in research, education, and campus development, and extended wishes for the university's continued success in nurturing talent and innovation.
Yang Gu, a 1990 Computer Science graduate and President and Editor-in-Chief of Guangming Online, represented alumni who have been graduated for 30 years. He expressed gratitude for the lasting impact of his education experience in Beihang, particularly its guiding principles with the spirit of “Serve the Country through Aerospace Endeavors” at its core, which has motivated him throughout his career. He wished Beihang continued success in this transformative era.
Wang Hongxia, a 2000 alumna from the School of Astronautics and CEO of Aotian Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., spoke on behalf of alumni who have been graduated for 20 years. She shared her pride in Beihang's development and expressed gratitude for the values instilled by the university, which have inspired her to contribute to national growth. She wished Beihang a bright future ahead.
During the event, representatives from the Class of 1990 presented flowers to the teachers, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their dedication and guidance.
After the reunion, alumni gathered across the campus to capture commemorative photos.
