Russian State Duma Delegation Visits Beihang University

On November 10, a delegation led by Mr. Denis Kravchenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Economic Policy of the State Duma, visited Beihang University. The delegation, comprising representatives from the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities, and Rostec State Corporation of Russia, was welcomed by Beihang Vice President Zhao Weisheng at the Ruxin Conference Center. Representatives from the International Relations Department, the Department of Academic Affairs, the Institute of Science and Technology, the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering, and the School of Astronautics also attended the meeting.

Zhao Weisheng extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and briefed the guests on Beihang’s recent achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, and global collaboration. He stated that Beihang has established inter-university partnerships with many first-class universities and research institutions in Russia, achieving fruitful results in multiple areas such as student exchanges, dual-degree programs, faculty academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation, and joint laboratory construction. He introduced the newly established Hangzhou International Campus and expressed hopes for more Russian experts, scholars, and students to engage in academic and research activities at the new campus. It is hoped that with the support of the State Duma of Russia, the two sides will strengthen cooperation in multiple areas like personnel exchanges, talent cultivation, and joint research, jointly creating a new chapter in higher education and scientific and technological cooperation between China and Russia.

Kravchenko expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and commended Beihang’s remarkable progress in recent years. He provided an overview of Russia’s efforts across government, industry, and academia to enhance Sino-Russian cooperation. He noted the 75th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic relations, and expressed hopes for deeper cooperation in areas of shared interest, including aviation, aerospace, and information technology.

Before the meeting, the delegation visited the Center for Micro-Nano Innovation of Beihang (Beihang Nano), the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (China), and the State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems.

Beihang University has a long history of collaboration with Russia, and has established partnerships with 16 Russian institutions and research organizations since the 1950s. In recent years, the university has invited over 330 Russian experts for short-term academic exchanges, joint research, and joint guidance for students in disciplines such as physics, materials science, mathematics, biomedical engineering, control science, and hydrodynamics. Beihang has also joined international alliances such as the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities, the Sino-Russian Comprehensive University Alliance, and the China-Russia-Belarus University Alliance, fostering multilateral and bilateral collaboration with Russian universities.
