To commemorate Lin Shi'e, the founder of China's aviation instrumentation and inertial technology and a key figure in the establishment of Beihang University, the large-scale biographical drama Eternity, independently created by the School of Instrumentation and Optoelectronic Engineering, was staged at the Beihang Sunrise Concert Hall on December 13, attracting nearly 800 faculty and students.
The drama tracks the life of Lin Shi'e and shows his dedication to the service of the country, embodying the core spirit of “steadfastness, perseverance, and dedication,” which is often referred to as the “gyroscope spirit.” It presents Lin’s life experiences in three stages: his eternal love for the country, his unwavering pursuit of innovation, and his lifelong devotion to the people.
Guided by Ye Jing, a professor from Beihang Student Drama Troupe, the drama took nine months from the adaptation of the script to the stage performance.
Before the performance, Lyu Jinhu, Vice President of Beihang University, visited the cast. He emphasized Lin’s pivotal role as a founder of Beihang University and as the father of China’s aircraft automatic control and gyroscope navigation disciplines. He encouraged students to fully immerse themselves in their roles during the performance, internalize the “gyroscope spirit” and put it into practice, contributing their wisdom and strength to the great cause of building a powerful country and national rejuvenation.
Eternity is the first drama in the “Beihang Backbone” series. It was created, directed, and performed by students from School of Instrumentation and Optoelectronic Engineering. Premiering in 2015, it has been performed nine times over nearly nine years for Beihang teachers and students.
The event was also attended by Lin Jie, a family member of Lin Shi’e, Lyu Jinhu, Vice President of Beihang University, and representatives from the Department of Student Affairs, Communist Youth League Committee, and the School of Instrumentation and Optoelectronic Engineering.
