The 9th Beihang University International Cultural Festival Opens

On May 18, the 9th Beihang University International Cultural Festival kicked off at Xueyuan Road Campus. This year’s festival was hosted by the International Relations Department and co-organized by the High School Affiliated to Beihang University, the School of Foreign Languages, and Zhizhen College. The event spans across all three campuses in Beijing and Hangzhou. President Wang Yunpeng and Vice President Deng Yi came to the spot and had cordial exchanges with the Chinese and foreign students here while also joining them to experience the diverse cultures of different countries.

In the morning, the opening ceremony began with a parade featuring flag bearers from all participating countries; then, students from the High School continued with drum performance and dance mashup; after the programs, students from all over the world brought a dazzling show of traditional costumes to the audience. Meanwhile, in the culture exhibition area, international students from 41 countries and regions set up more than 50 booths and invited Chinese students to experience the traditional culture of their countries, try on their traditional costumes, and learn about their humanities and geographies. Through interactions and exchanges, the young people experienced the charm of cultural diversity.

In the afternoon, 21 fabulous performances co-presented by Chinese students and the international students attracted many people. With beautiful songs and wonderful dances, these enthusiastic foreign students won big rounds of applause from the audience.

As part of this year’s event, the 9th Beihang University International Cultural Festival will be held on May 22 and May 25 in the form of the “International Cultural Experience Workshop” at Shahe Campus in Beijing and Hangzhou International Campus, respectively.

Since 2012, Beihang has held nine International Cultural Festivals. The Beihang University International Cultural Festival has become the grandest gathering for international students of the university, and it is also a calling card showcasing cultural diversity and inclusiveness in Beihang.

Centering around the goal to build Beihang into a worldwide first-class university with Chinese characteristics, Beihang International Education aims to cultivate international young talents with strong social responsibility, sound scientific literacy and outstanding innovative ability who know China and are friendly to China. At present, there are more than 1,000 international students from 108 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, America, and Oceania studying and living on the campuses.
