On the morning of June 4, a group of 12 people from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), Spain including Julio Lage, President of University Social Council, Alberto Garrido, Vice-rector for Quality and Efficiency, Victor Robles, Vice-rector for Digital Strategy and Transformation, visited Beihang University. Beihang President Wang Yunpeng met with the guests in the conference room of the New Main Building. Vice President Zhao Weisheng and relevant leaders from the Administration Office, the International Relations Department, the Graduate School, the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, the School of Energy and Power Engineering, the School of Computer Science and Engineering, and the School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering attended the meeting. Zhao Weisheng presided over the meeting.
Wang Yunpeng first extended a warm welcome to the guests. He said that as one of the most important strategic cooperation partners of Beihang, UPM has supported and helped Beihang a lot in expanding the cooperation with Europe and deepening the training of international excellent engineering talents. The two sides have sincere mutual trust and friendly cooperation, and have forged a deep friendship in the 17-year history of cooperation. In the past year, the two sides have had frequent high-level visits and teacher exchanges, and have achieved many practical results in international talent cultivation and international scientific research cooperation. He hoped that the two sides will build on the existing cooperation mechanisms and tap into the resource advantages of Hangzhou International Campus to comprehensively expand and deepen cooperation in dual-degree joint training, academic cooperation between professors, and the construction of joint laboratories in key and cutting-edge fields. Through high-level scientific research cooperation and high-quality talent training, the two sides can jointly build a model brand of Sino-Spanish higher education cooperation.
Lage expressed his gratitude for Beihang’s warm reception. He said that UPM and Beihang have many similarities in talent training concepts, discipline layout, and school development plans. The two sides enjoy a solid foundation for cooperation and broad prospects. He believed that Beihang is unique in cooperation with the industry and industry-education integration training, which is worth learning from. Beihang is the most important cooperation partner of UPM. The two sides have accumulated rich experience in talent training and international cooperation between professors. He hoped that through this visit, the potential for cooperation between the two sides will be further explored, the innovation of international talent training models will be continuously promoted, and outstanding engineering talents for the future will be jointly cultivated.
During the visit, the two sides renewed the Memorandum of Inter-university Cooperation and Student Exchange Agreement.
The delegation also visited the Center for Micro-Nano Innovation of Beihang (Beihang Nano) and the State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems.
During their tour, the two sides held an academic exchange seminar between professors, exchanged their points of view and discussed subjects such as automation, energy, and computer science, and reached a number of consensuses.
The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), located in Madrid, Spain, has a history that can be traced back to the 17th century, and was reorganized in 1971. It is the largest and longest-running professional polytechnic university in Spain. Its engineering majors such as architecture, civil engineering, machinery, aerospace, and energy are at the top level in Spain and Europe.
