Beihang School

Beihang School was founded in 2017 with the mission of cultivating future leaders with a strong sense of national responsibility and social commitment. It represents an innovative approach to undergraduate education by integrating broad-category admissions and interdisciplinary training. Building upon years of pilot programs, it provides a first-year curriculum emphasizing general education.

Study

Guided by the principles of  "student-centered education, integration of general and specialized studies, innovation-driven collaboration, and holistic development,"  the School consolidates educational resources across the university. It manages talent development programs and school construction, fosters innovative teaching models, and implements initiatives such as branded teaching teams, global faculty recruitment, and a "course supermarket" mechanism to optimize resources for student development.

Faculty

The School comprises a Party and Administration Office, Teaching Department, Student Affairs Department, and seven colleges: Chuanyuan, Shi'e, Fengru, Shijia, Shou'e, Zhizhen, and Zhixing, along with an Engineering Practice and Innovation Center. Renowned scholars serve as the heads of these colleges, while national-level master educators take on roles as professors responsible for broad-category admission programs. The School has established ten core curriculum clusters and aims to build a systematic framework for cultivating students with a strong foundation, enhanced capabilities, enriched qualities, and expansive thinking.

Research

The School attaches great importance to cultivating students' innovative potential and practical abilities. Leveraging the university's strength in scientific research, the School integrates renowned innovation programs like the "Feng Ru Cup," providing opportunities for creative and practical training. In 2021, students independently developed the "Feng Ru 3-100" drone, which set a world record for endurance in its category. Through collaborations with the Engineering Practice and Innovation Center and the industry, the School has established a series of university-enterprise joint laboratories and courses in engineering innovation and practice. These programs are shared with other universities in Beijing's Shahe Higher Education Alliance, receiving high praise from municipal leaders.


Fengru College

Fengru College of Beihang University, named after Mr. Feng Ru, the "Father of Chinese Aviation," carries forward his spirit of "Serving the Nation through Aerospace Endeavors." As part of Beihang School, the college began pilot operation in 2016 and was officially established in 2017.

Fengru College adheres to the school's mission and goal of cultivating leading talents who can carry forward the spirit of serving the country in aerospace and shoulder the great responsibility of national rejuvenation in the new era. It shapes the core spiritual qualities of "broad-mindedness, courage, and perseverance" of the college and builds a five-in-one college education system of "ideological guidance, general education, mentor system, academic support, and community construction." Through an educational management system that aligns with talent development principles, embodies contemporary characteristics, and reflects Beihang's distinct features, the college empowers students to grow into well-rounded leaders in aerospace, who develop a strong sense of social responsibility and cultural literacy, master solid foundational knowledge in mathematics and sciences, acquire broad expertise, cultivate self-directed learning and innovation capabilities, and enhance practical engineering skills alongside effective communication and collaboration. These qualities prepare them to tackle future challenges and compete globally.

After the freshman year, students from the Engineering Experimental Class (Aerospace) of the college will select their majors. They will pursue further studies in relevant majors in the School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Energy and Power Engineering, School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, School of Transportation Science and Engineering, School of Reliability and Systems Engineering, School of Astronautics, School of Aviation, and other aerospace-related colleges.


Shijia College

Shijia College, named after Mrs. Lu Shijia (a renowned Chinese fluid dynamics expert), is one of the seven colleges under Beihang School. Adhering to the university's overall goal of talent cultivation, the Shijia College always aims "general education, mentorship system and community concept" as the core of educational cooperation and "Seeking Truth and Perfecting Virtue, Achieving Far-Reaching Goals Through Perseverance" as the core spiritual qualities of talent cultivation. By adopting the college-based educational management mode coincided with the talent growth patterns and embodying Beihang's characteristics, the college prioritizes the cultivation of outstanding leaders in the aerospace field, with strong sense of social responsibility and excellent humanistic quality, solid mathematical foundation and extensive professional knowledge, independent learning competency and innovative awareness, strong engineering practice ability and good communication and cooperation skills, as well as the courage to meet future challenges and participate in international competitions.

After the freshman year, students from the Engineering Experimental Class (Aerospace) of the college will select their majors. Shou'e College

Named after Academician Tu Shou'e—a founding member of Beihang University, a pioneer in China's missile and aerospace programs, and a recipient of the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" Merit Medal—Shou'e College was established in 2017 under Beihang School.

The college embraces the motto "Upholding Integrity, Pioneering Innovation," inspiring its faculty and students to value virtue and practicality while seeking truth and breaking new ground. Aligned with the university's talent development principle, the college fosters students' ideals, academic growth, and comprehensive qualities, aiming to cultivate future leaders in aerospace with a strong sense of national mission and social responsibility. Key initiatives include the drama Centennial Shou'e to inspire patriotism, a dual-mentor system for academic and innovation training, the "Lumen Star" program for social practice, and labor education activities to promote dedication and ethics.

After the freshman year, students from the Engineering Experimental Class (Aerospace) of the college will select their majors. Chuanyuan College

Chuanyuan College of Beihang University was founded in September 2021, named in honor of the renowned educator and scientist, Wen Chuanyuan. It is affiliated to the Beihang School.

With "fostering virtue through education" as its fundamental mission and "Persist in Action, and the Future Holds Promise" as its motto, the college adheres to the university's talent cultivation principles of "Cultivating Profound Feelings for the Nation, Strengthening Foundational Knowledge, Emphasizing Practical Abilities, and Integrating Science & Education." It is committed to nurturing a new generation of Beihang students characterized by "a strong sense of national commitment, integrity and sincerity, innovative spirit and sense of responsibility, and dedication to practical work." Centering on "general education, tutorial system, and community building," the college integrates resources, advances institutional and organizational development, focuses on the personalized development of students, and has constructed a "five-in-one" education model, which consists of ideological guidance, general education, mentor system, academic support, and community construction.

After freshman year, students from the Engineering Experimental Class (Computing and Intelligent Science) of the college will select their majors. They will pursue further studies in relevant majors in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Software, School of Cyber Science and Technology, and School of Artificial Intelligence (Institute of Artificial Intelligence).

Shi'e College

Shi'e College, part of Beihang School, is named after Professor Lin Shi'e—a renowned patriotic scientist, automatic control expert, and aviation educator. As one of the founding members of Beihang, Professor Lin established China's disciplines of Automatic Flight Control System and Inertial Navigation System, contributing significantly to the nation's aerospace education and technology. The college originated from Qiming College, which started pilot operations in 2012 and was formally founded in June 2017.

Guided by the "TuoLuo (Spinning Top) Spirit"—rooted in Professor Lin's noble virtues of "Patriotism, Innovation, and Dedication"—Shi'e College follows three core principles: "unwavering determination, tenacious perseverance, and persistent effort." It inherits the legacy of "Serving the Nation through Aerospace Endeavors," and adheres to the motto "Patriotism, Confidence, Inclusiveness, and Innovation." The college aims to cultivate future leaders who meet national needs and drive global progress in the information field.

To achieve this, Shi'e College has developed a range of key educational brands, including:

• "Shixin" Party Building Workshop;

• "Shiyi" Academic Support Center;

• "Zhishi Six Arts" Liberal Arts Courses;

• "Shibo" Interest Courses;

• "Shituo" Innovation & Practice Support Program;

• "Shi'ai" Mentor Group, which consists of ideological and political mentors, academic mentors, distinguished special mentors, and peer mentors.

Additionally, the college has innovated the functional for Party branch development mechanism within its "One-Stop" student community. It also developed Shi'e Visionaries University-Enterprise collaboration education system, enabling students to engage in industry practices and cutting-edge technologies.

After freshman year, students from the Engineering Experimental Class (Information Science and Technology) of the college will select their majors. They will pursue further studies in relevant majors in the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, School of Instrumentation and Optoelectronic Engineering, and School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering.


Zhizhen College

Established in 2017, Zhizhen College is affiliated with the Beihang School. The college derives its name from the word "Zhizhen," which originates from the university's talent cultivation goal. This reflects Beihang's educational philosophy, embodying the university spirit of pursuing scientific truth and exploring the laws of objective reality.

Zhizhen College aims to cultivate leading talents in the field of science who "inherit the spirit of serving the nation through aerospace endeavors and are capable of shouldering the great responsibility of national rejuvenation." The college is committed to equipping students with a noble moral character, a solid foundation in mathematics and sciences, outstanding research capabilities, innovative thinking, profound humanistic literacy, and a broad international perspective. It promotes an educational culture that integrates general education with specialized studies, ensuring the all-round development of students in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. Guided by the talent cultivation policy of "nurturing aspirations, strengthening fundamentals, emphasizing practice, and integrating education with research," the college emphasizes general education in the first year, adopting a broad-based, platform-oriented, mentor-guided, and community-based training model.

After the freshman year, students from the Science Experimental Class will select their majors. They will pursue further studies in relevant majors in four schools: School of Economics and Management, School of Mathematical Sciences, School of Physics, and School of Space and Earth Sciences.


Zhixing College

Established in September 2012, the Zhixing College of Beihang University is one of the university's earliest pilot colleges dedicated to the residential college system. Since its inception, the college has been committed to cultivating students' well-rounded character in the pursuit of truth, virtue, and beauty, adhering to the educational philosophy of "Cultivated Individuals with Moral Integrity and Professional Competence, Grounded in Both Eastern and Western Traditions" and the motto "Integration of Chinese and Western Learning, Self-Cultivation for Personal Growth."

In moral character development, it emphasizes the formation of "moral integrity" and the shaping of "noble character." In academic pursuit, it aims for the highest academic ideal of "Mastery of Eastern and Western Knowledge, Proficiency in Ancient and Modern Learning," helping students acquire broad knowledge and refined temperament, thereby achieving a unity of humanistic spirit and scientific inquiry.

Centered on the core value of "culture," the college has developed a four-pillar education system integrating "Character Development, Liberal Education, Intensive Mentoring, and Mentor Leadership." Through an immersive talent development model, it promotes both comprehensive growth and individual potential. The college emphasizes a holistic "Liberal + Professional" education approach, offering a general education curriculum centered on "Three Histories and Three Readings," and building a prestigious liberal education brand known as "Education of the Grand Academy." Supported by academic advisors and peer mentors, the college fosters a whole-community education environment that provides guidance in ideological development, academic growth, career planning, life skills, and major selection, creating an uplifting and virtuous atmosphere for student development.

After the freshman year, students from the Social Science Experimental Class will select their majors. They will pursue further studies in relevant majors in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (School of Public Administration), School of Law, or Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences. 

Engineering Practice and Innovation Center

The predecessor of the Engineering Practice and Innovation Center of Beihang University was the Machinery Plant of Beihang University, established in 1954. In 1999, it was formally reorganized as the Engineering Training Center, and in 2024 it was renamed the Engineering Practice and Innovation Center. The Center has been recognized as "National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center" of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, "Designated Internship Base for Colleges and Universities" of Beijing, "Open and Shared Engineering Practice and Innovation Base" of the Shahe Higher Education Park, "Popular Science Education Base on Mechanical Manufacturing and Instrumentation" of the China Instrument and Control Society, "Science and Technology Education Experience Base of the City of Science Museums" of Beijing, "Youth Science Popularization and Education Base" of the Beijing Education System Committee for the Wellbeing of the Next Generation, "Science Popularization and Education Base" of the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and "Labor Education Base" of the university. The internship facilities, located entirely at the Shahe Campus, cover over 15,000 square meters and can accommodate over 600 students daily. They provide a first-class experimental teaching environment for engineering ability training and engineering practice innovation.

The Center is fully open to all the departments of Beihang and universities in the Shahe Higher Education Park. It carries the foundational and systematic education responsibility of cultivating students' engineering literacy, practical competence, and innovative potential. The center has established an interdisciplinary basic engineering training platform in mechanical, electrical, and control engineering for all university departments. A progressive engineering innovation practice teaching system has been constructed, comprising four levels: fundamental engineering awareness, basic engineering practice, cutting-edge technology exploration, and comprehensive innovation training.

With the support of the Beijing Municipality, Changping District and the Shahe Higher Education Park Management Committee, the Center has jointly built "Beidou," "Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)," "Robotics," "5G," "Artificial Intelligence" and other university-enterprise joint laboratories, and has cooperated in developing multiple engineering innovation courses, promoting the sharing of regional teaching resources and the coordinated development of industry, education and research.

Since 2023, in response to the "Manufacturing Powerhouse" strategy, the Center has taken intelligent manufacturing as the lead, built a smart manufacturing factory and three major platforms of intelligent processing, detection and assembly, and central control, continuously promoting the digital transformation and upgrading of engineering training.
