College of Continuing Education

Founded in 1986, the College of Continuing Education at Beihang University is an institution dedicated to leveraging the university's educational resources to provide continuing education and lifelong learning opportunities to the broader society. Guided by the university's motto "Integrate Virtue with Brilliance and Combine Knowledge with Practice," the College utilizes its unique strengths to fulfill diverse educational missions, including adult degree education, international training programs, non-degree vocational training, and high-end talent development. The College has three functional offices: the Comprehensive Management Office, the Finance Department, and the Teaching Quality Management Office. Additionally, there are three primary academic entities under the College: the Degree Education Center, the Educational Training Center, and the International Education Center.

The College is an integral part of the broader educational system at Beihang University, working alongside undergraduate and graduate education to contribute to the university's mission of talent cultivation, social service, and industry engagement. It plays a key role in enhancing the university's all-encompassing talent development system, reflecting social value, and promoting the spirit and culture of Beihang.

Study

The Degree Education Center is a merger of the university's adult higher education, modern distance education, and course center. The adult higher education can date back to 1956, when it became one of the first institutions in China to offer correspondence and evening university programs. Drawing on the university's advanced teaching facilities, abundant faculty resources, and comprehensive infrastructure, the center aims to cultivate high-level skilled and applied talents that meet market demands. Currently, the center offers degree programs in Computer Science and Technology and Business Administration at the Specialist to Bachelor's Degree level.

In 2002, Beihang was authorized to pilot modern distance education, leading to the establishment of the Modern Distance Education Institute. The program, utilizing remote and online learning formats, successfully fulfilled its educational mission and concluded the pilot phase smoothly.

Beihang's higher degree continuing education is aligned with the university's strategic focus and distinctive strengths. The center focuses on cultivating innovative, applied, and technical talent, offering a "small but excellent" approach to degree programs. The center continuously optimizes its curriculum based on societal needs and emphasizes student-centered education and high academic quality. By integrating continuing education with information technology, the center provides a rich array of educational resources, including general education courses, professional courses, career development classes, and practical teaching components. Instruction is delivered through various formats, including online, offline, and hands-on training, allowing students to resolve work-study conflicts and enhance their abilities and overall literacy.

Research

Leveraging the university's strong research capabilities and teaching expertise, the Educational Training Center was established in 2004. The center has developed a series of high-quality, industry-focused courses that reflect the university's unique strengths in fields such as civil aviation, general aviation, information technology, intelligent manufacturing, government training, corporate management, education services, and skills enhancement. Adhering to the educational philosophy of "promoting virtue, being pragmatic, seeking truth, and innovating," the center closely aligns its curriculum with national, societal, and industry needs. The training center operates under the principles of "high-end, precise, and professional" education, strengthening its professional technical services and continuously expanding non-degree education with distinctive Beihang characteristics. The center contributes to the university's broader talent development and technical training initiatives.

International Cooperation

Adhering to high standards and an outward-facing educational philosophy, the International Education Center adopts advanced domestic and international educational practices to offer international education and training programs. In 2004, the launch of the international education initiative was marked by a visit from the First Minister of Scotland to Beihang University. The center offers a variety of international degree programs, such as the SQA AD 3+2 Program (a 3-year study at Beihang followed by 2 years abroad for a combined bachelor's and master's degree) and the North American 2+2 Program (2 years at Beihang followed by 2 years abroad for a bachelor's degree). Over 95% of students continue their education abroad after completing their undergraduate degrees, with many attending prestigious universities like Oxford, the London School of Economics, Columbia University, and Clemson University. In July 2010, Beihang's International Education Program was awarded the title of "Outstanding Teaching Center" by Dr. Janet Brown, President of SQA, making it one of only two Chinese institutions to receive this honor. Since its inception, the program has nurtured over 3,000 globally competent talents, providing outstanding students with access to global educational opportunities.
